End Of An Era!!
There is an announcement on the forum, which seems to be easy to miss. Phoebus has decided to move on / pack it all in and the server and domains will shut down by June 1st unless somebody decides to make a reasonable offer and then take over. --> read it
Thanks to Phoebus for running the show for so long and if it wasn't for the newdoom and raven forums, which he so generously provided, I would not know several very good friends. So it's certainly sad that this all may be gone by June, but something good has come from it all, that's for damned sure. Cheers to Phoebus! Thanks for nine years of good times! Good luck Phoebus in your future endeavors!

Ahh, the irony! I was talking the bus home earlier and I was looking for an excuse to use
-- and now I found one! (It's a classic smiley. Thanks, Looney for reminding me!)

Aha! Well as much as I love this place, I knew it wasn't gonna last forever. What are the chances of somebody taking it all over? I do not have my hopes up and even if somebody did I think I will pack in the whole moderator thing. Really tired of doing that for 8 years straight. Plus the news... can't see me wanting to do that for much longer. It's gotten boring and who even reads any of it.... hah.

You can't pack in the mod thing! You're an admin in the group! Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!
![]() I feel like an ass for putting off giving cash to Phoebus' Pay-Pal thing. I think I should next time I get some cash flow happening. I've been jobless for way too damn long.

I am thinking about entertaining the possibility of maybe looking into what's needed to run things here.
I'm unsure of the scope of everything, and whether this would end up being a full time job and a drain on my limited monetary resources

:CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCcc
:CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC I can't make a face sad enough :CC Hopefully someone will pick things up! This has always been the better Doom community in my eyes. The others have become too popular and get too many stupids. There is always be The Abyss. Most everyone there is a New Doomer anyway. |

That's not a DooM community; that's an argument community.

I'm with Raptor here. Newdoom has been one of the few sane places on the internet, and I sure hate seeing it go.
We're discussing on what to do in case Newdoom closes. For now we can invite you guys over. Despite looking like a little inside club, we're truly open for new members. Even if it seems that we're just circle jerking around, it's because we've grown quite fond of each other at the Abyss. What I'm saying is that Abyss could very well continue the Newdoom tradition. Host the source ports currently hosted by Newdoom in the event that they'd like to move over. Basically continue where Newdoom left. This all has to be planned carefully, though. Also, we're not the argument forum we were around the beginning. The whole place has completely transformed, ascended into a little social network site of its own. For this reason it may even be better to start a completely new forum instead of trying to transform Abyss into Newdoom. |

Aye, this is sad news...
The Abyss isn't a bad place, provided that you don't consider the mindlas forum as the only forum, heh. |

This is indeed very sad news.
A completely new site would be very interesting, but yeah as FATAL said, it has to planned very carefully for a smooth move. FATAL, I signed up at The Abyss, very nice place btw, but I have idea where to start posting about stuff..

Yeah, I like it there. I just don't have enough space in my brain for two sets of forums so I kept only posting here.

All you have to do is to just go into Mindlas and bash your keyboard until words come out and hit send like the rest of us
![]() Some more people would sure be nice for us. Might actually be able to get a Hell On to actually take place!! |

Im glad you guys are offering, lets me off the hook, I do have a new supposedly unlimited webspace/bandwidth account after Lycos kicked the bucket and left me high and dry recently.
I could set up a new domain and provide space for it if nothing else works but someone else will have to run/admin it, I really dont have that sort of time available, takes me weeks to fix a broken link on my own homepage. I guess its time to familiarise myself with that abyss place, been meaning to for a while anyway. Like Liam I hate myself for not sending a little cash to phoebus, just recently the Latvian government decided it doesnt need farmers anymore and cancelled the promised payments for last years crops, among other drastic measures. Undas parents are farmers, they are really up shit creek without a paddle so all my spare cash is being used to bail out my new family over there. Ive just come back from there a few days ago and things really are terrible, the economy is dead, unemployment benefits almost non existent, old age pensions less then half the legal minimum requirement. Like most farmers Undas parents have a good supply of potatoes etc in their cellar (more than enough to feed themselves until the next crop) so some locals worse off than themselves swallow their pride and come round to visit around about mealtimes in the hope of a free meal, nobody is turned away, those folk stick together in hard times. Odd thing is times were never that hard under the soviet union except during and immediately after the war. Seems since joining the EEC the government has been trying to force farmers off the land and into the cities (where there are no jobs for them anyway). I think its something the EEC does in all its states so that big multinationals like delmonte can buy up all the land cheaply.
