Which operating system do you use most?
As a gamer, you are generally a technical person. What operating system do you use most?
I'm not talking about strictly for gaming. What OS do you use for productivity? Creativity? Horsing around? Also note that I am running this poll on a few different sites, so if you frequent those sites, please only vote once, as I will be compiling the numbers at the end of the run.

Ubuntu 8.10 for my daily use (writing, internetting, internets, some games) and Windows XP just for gaming, so I voted Linux.

I haven't really ventured outside of Windows XP yet, so just that.

Been a while since I was bothered about using anything other than XP.

As such my PC still gets used mostly for gaming and web browsing, and Vista does everything I do on my computer fine without any problems, so I don't think I'll be looking at a Linux install until gaming eventually wears off.
And I will never be using OSX on a desktop-based PC. Ever. I really think Apple should just start sticking to their Macbook range and high end graphics development boxes. |

Windblows XP sp3 for the most part.
I'v sort of been pick'n choosing with linux, settled on Ubuntu. But I mainly use Winxp so I voted on that. Games on the PC wearing off, I could never see that happening. |

Entirely Linux. And I mean *real* linux, not that windows wannabe that calls itself Umbuntu. Specifically:
Slackware Linux on: 3 Laptops 4 x86 desktops Sun Micro Sparcstaiton Other Linux on: HPPA Risc Machine (Debian, I believe) DEC ALPHA Machine (Debian) Sharp Zaurus (pdaxrom) GP2X (You know, the one that comes with it... Embedix? Actually you probably don't know what I'm talking about, but someday you might.) Linux will soon be appearing on : Dreamcast PS2 Wiij Windows lives on some of my systems, but is never used (a relic of a bygone era, by which I mean my parents had it -- I guess that makes it a hereditary disease in this case). Say, why are there no BSD or HURD or Next users out there? Not even i5OS. I guess "Other" just sounds sad or something. |

WTF? DEC Alpha? Where do you get this stuff? lol Last I checked HURD was crap and NeXT was dead. I haven't seen a NeXT machine in 15 years. I used to have all my Linux desktops using that Window Maker window manager. It does a nice job of acting like NeXT.

Ubuntu isn't that bad is it? It's Debian or based on Debian afaik heh
The latest version seems pretty good and I did check a lot of the newer Linux destros out before deciding on Ubuntu. But again I mainly use windowsxp. Oh btw, I almost decided on OpenSUSE but then I noticed it started to get a little buggy. maybe the next version will change my mind. Last edited by MR_ROCKET; December 3rd, 2008 at 11:17 PM. |

Ubuntu isn't bad, but take away all the Linux features you'd come to expect and its not really a whole lot different from a Windows OS. For some it ruins the whole point of moving away from Windows in the first place.
