Portal

I love this game. Sadly it was too sort. I've already beaten it twice. The second time I tried doing a speed run through it. Took me about 2 hours. Anyone else play this game yet?

I think Portal is one of those games that you really truly enjoy your first time through. Since after that you know where everything is it sucks the fun factor out. I haven't played it myself but I will when I get my hands on a copy of Orange Box. Not that theres not enough in the package to keep me occupied after I finish Portal.

I'm waiting for episode 3 to come out before I bother playing any of the Episodes. I'd rather play all three through. And hopefully Portal will be included with it, or at the very least will be available stand-alone by then.

That's what the "System Requirements" stuff is for on the box.

That sounds more like an issue with needing to fix the comp. Regardless of requirements computers should not be rebooting from that. Last time a computer did that to me it was an overheating issue with the video card because it had a really shitty aluminum heatsink with no fan. I've seen drivers do similar things though. If you can play Half-Life 2 then Portal should work.

That aside, Portal is a work of genius. First time in ages I played an FPS game that was really different, well designed, free of glitches, and damn funny. I had similar emotions at first from the Shock, and Elder Scrolls games (and DooM) but Portal feels more accessble to people.

Now that I"m done it it's time to finish HL2 and its various episodes. I'm way behind on that.

Indeed, Portal is awesome. While short, the advanced and challenge maps provide for quite a bit of replay value.

I'm glad I picked up the Orange Box the day it came out. I already owned Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One, but Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal are still well worth the $44.99 in my opinion.

Portal is great fun! And yes it's to bad it's so short but it has a good load of replay value I think.
I also bought Orange Box the day before it was released and I already owned HL2 and HL2 Episode One, but it was really worth it. Team Fortess 2 has a really addictive gameplay.
And Episode Two is just plain beautiful and awesome!

From what I understand, Valve is going to release Source for Team Fortress 2 and Portal within the next few weeks.

Until then, listen to the credit song again...

Heh, I love that song. Also, I have seen a few portal maps made already but I have yet to try them. They are probably pretty basic.

Exactly my case. In fact, I was buying Orange box MAINLY because of Portal (and because I was bored, yeah).

Anyway, I hope there would be more fan levels. So far Portal reminds me of those old 2d puzzle games

I would say my impatience towards affording the Orange Box is pretty much driven by Portal at this point. Way back in spring, I think I was more excited about Episode Two (and don't get me wrong, I still am; FORESTS), but seeing more and more media stuffs, etc. and hearing about the game itself has more than shifted my attention almost solely to Portal.

I'm not particularly thrilled about having to buy Half-Life 2 and Episode One all over again along with TF2 just to get the two I want, but seeing as buying them standalone through Steam would cost exactly the same, I'm pretty much damned if I do and damned if I don't, unfortunately. But I guess the set is a better deal regardless.

I'm not thrilled about it being short, of course (I was disappointed by Episode One's 5-hour length (4-hour the second time through some 8 months later)), but once the SDK is released I'm sure there will be plenty of mods to be released somewhere along the line. I'm hoping it will be like custom levels for Lemmings turned out to be--while the original games didn't last forever, the puzzles that modders came out with--even though modding Portal would obviously be more time-consuming--were more than enough to make up for it, and often even more brain-melting than the originals.

And there's always hope for a sequel--perhaps bundled with Episode Three.
