013 Void Space
Void Space
By: DooMAD voidspce.zip (531 kb) ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/pc/games/idga...z/voidspce.zip doom2.exe. Single player. July 2002. 1 Map. Reviewer: Fatal using jDoom. Score: 5,5 This map consists of dull gray hallways, but its well made structure keeps things very interesting. The main downside is the greatly varying difficulty level, which can surprise the player. Level Design 6 I really liked the style in Void Space. Gray hallways reminding me of some sort of asylum with tall, grey buildings all around. However, despite the nice mood the level created, it was rather plain, and as maps tend to be, tube-like. The constant teleporting to adjacent structures and some backtracking surprises save it from the deepest grave, and the final product leaves a good taste in mouth. It was a bit short, but long enough to get a grasp of what the map is about. There are also some new sounds present, which immediately caught my attention. Surprisingly most of them fit very well. Difficulty 5 The map starts easy, and stays that way until one surprising moment, in which the map gets suddenly more difficult. I prefer more balanced difficulty. Also med pack placement didn't compensate for the increased difficulty, and only a few stim packs are found around the level. Ammo and weaponry is plentiful, so you don't have to worry about running out of it at any moment. You got bigger weapons as the enemies grew bigger, which worked very nicely. Overall this map is easy, and if you manage to dodge the enemies' bullets and fireballs, you shouldn't have any trouble getting through this map. Detailing 3 Let's face it: This map is rather plain. It has some new textures which fit in very nicely, but that's it. The map performs well with the basic features, doors, windows and such, like any map (or at least most maps, heh), but it doesn't have pretty much any fitting or unfitting decoration besides those. While the map works as it is, some, even just a few, extra objects would've given a nice impression. Neat -good idea for map style -consistent theme Boo -inconsistent difficulty -very plain The main hub is visited often. At least this many times. I love seeing to other areas of the map in advance! ![]() Weird, redÂ… floor in this otherwise a very gray map. |
