009 Redemption
Redemption
Author: Flesh699, Impboy, Tango. Redemption.wad 1980kb ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/pc/games/idga...r/redempt1.zip Port: Doom Legacy. Single Player, Cooperative. August 14, 2005. 11 Maps. Reviewed by: AlysiumX using Doom Legacy Score: 4 Welcome to the library of stolen sprites. Redemption uses about every sprite or sound from every modification that has ever been created for doom. Checking out the text file doesn't make it look any prettier, as these authors didn't even credit anybody! Redemption is a 11 level megawad for the use of legacy, it was made by Flesh669, Impboy, and Tango. Don't expect a very good, high quality, megawad or you will be sadly disappointed, as this megawad has plenty of stuff in bad taste. Redemption earns a 4 out of 10. Map01 Author : Flesh669 - Well im not really impressed, this level didn't have much for content. The only real significant thing about this level is that it features a 3d floors above a lava pit. This level is really short and could have used better layout. The layout seems to be a little jumbled up and details are pretty plain. Map02 Author : Flesh669 - There are some nice improvements when compared to the first map. This level has more detail and also a somewhat bigger layout. The only real problem with this level is that the rooms once again are really small making it hard to maneuver. Within this level you will find some nice details though using 3d floors and 3d water effects to this levels advantage. Map03 Author : Flesh669 - 3d floor usage seems to be getting much smarter as this level features a mass of 3d floors. Room are starting to look a bit better, and layouts more interesting. Although as you are passing through this level, you might want to remember where the doors are, as the level gives you a key and no guidance on your way back to a door. Map04 Author : Flesh669 - This brings those rooms back down to there small aggravating sizes once again. It also seems to support more of the same features, but it doesn't seem to be a plentiful as the third level. Levels are getting longer with each level that passes. Map05 Author : Flesh669 - Jesus Christ. Rooms are getting even smaller, there shrinking oh god. Details have taken a massive turn, leaving no room untouched. With each room getting smaller, this level becomes progressively harder than the rest. I can only imagine what this level would be like in a cooperative game, having to go through one at a time in each hallway would be a major set back. I'm in my seat praying that the rooms in the sixth level aren't smaller. Map06 Author : Flesh669 - This level has a very interesting layout. The room sizes are much better than the previous levels made by Flesh669 and it added some very cool tricks, like the death of the cyberdemon. As far as 3d floors and details, this level didn't really use them too well, in fact you find like two 3d floors and a ladder, that's about it. This level also features the most annoying music I've ever heard, sounds like something that would be in Donkey Kong, and it doesn't fit the theme too good. Map07 Author : Tango - Another great layout to play through, but it seemed that the theme was not to consistent throughout the level, the textures kept changing every couple of rooms. Some rooms were also a tad bit too plain which really took away from the great layout. This level also features some great 3d floor usage, it uses the 3d floors to its advantage to bring an even better layout. Another thing that really promotes this level is that the author has granted us two totally different passages to the same things, this definitely increase playability. I did however notice that were a good couple of doors that were kind of glitched up, just in texture though. Map08 Author : Tango - Upon starting this level you see a great tech textured theme and some nice details within the first room. Then you step into the next, the level does fit its theme but you will notice with each room the textures change again and again. Also you may notice that after that first room, it seems that the detail part of this level has just gone out the window. There were also little things that made this level less enjoyable then it could have been, some of the textures seem to be aligned wrong and there is a room with 4 barons that pretty much rule out your chances of survival. Other than that, the level uses 3d floor well within the details it does have and also to the layout's advantage. It also has some jump pads that aren't normally seen in single player games, but does nothing but help this levels gameplay. Map09 Author : Impboy - This wad claims to have a storyline, but I got no freakin' clue how I got on this ship. The ship details as well as the outside area don't really seem to stand up to the amount of detail needed to make it look nice. Some of the textures also are confusing, like when I get off the ship it doesn't really look like a ship from the outside. This level does however have a really nice layout idea which is the tubing leading through the brick foundations to the other side. There were not too many 3d floors laying about, and later I found out why, this level is very very short. Map10 Author : Impboy, Tango - This level takes place in......well... I can't really say, the textures just keep changing with every room, and none of them seem to make any since. Yet this level does offer some more great layout ideas and some more of those lovely jump pads. However details suffered a major set back as you will find very little. I also found a glitched up on the ceiling in the main room. This level is also pretty small, not as small as the one above but still too small to be this far in the megawad. Map11 Author : Tango - What can I honestly say about this level that hasn't been said many many times before? This level has the same rap sheet as the last 5 levels did, tons of texture changes, nice 3d floor usage, inconsistent details, and jump pads. The only real difference in this level is a crushing trap that is in good taste. So after playing this megawad for countless hours, what do I really think about it? Well I believe these authors may need to home in on there designing skill a bit more before trying to jump straight into megawad mode. Because of all the inconsistencies found in this megawad, I wouldn't recommend playing it, it lost its fun side about halfway through. Also because of how this megawad was made(apparently in gap according to the text file) the whole story line is horribly inconsistent. After a release like this I think that Flesh669, Impboy, and Tango might have to have a redemption of there own. Redemption earns a 4 out of 10. ![]() ![]()
