Well the next step in physics in doom would be pretty close to ragdolling them buggers, which isn't expected to happen any time soon.

As for hopping creatures, I'm sure people have made jumping monsters. At least for ports like zdoom.

realistic physics are not really possible without a 3d engine.

I'm sick & tired of seeing ragdoll physics.

Doom was way ahead of modern games when it first came out anyway. It already had physics. I mean, monsters could be blasted across a room with a point-blank BFG shot or any other explosion. No, I'm fine with what I've got. Keep it simple.

That, by no means, is a reason to halt development. As Doomsday has 3d models, ragdolling the monsters could be possible with lots of work, although I think that none of the developers are interested in adding it, as it would serve no real purpose.

Actually, we've been looking int the possibilities of skeleton based animation for a future version of Doomsday. If/when that is implemented it isn't THAT huge a leap to ragdoll death animations.

This is very true. There would be no purpose to ragdolling mods but it is always so nice to watch pc game enemies land in some messed up position arms legs and neck bent in some weird way. also one other question what about enemies that can only be killed by hitting their weak spots? Like zombies which are immune to body damage but can be dropped with a well placed head shot? kinda gives it a horror movie feel. I know I could play other games for that effect but I love doom. there is no story out there like it. I mean even Doom 3 (which is not really a sequal, but more of a re-do) doesn't have the ballsy story line like doom or hell on earth. I would just love to see a baron with the ability to pick up it's prey and throw it around like a ragdoll, damaging it by splattering it on the walls, or other monsters. Or even a cacodeamon that can use thoes jaws for real, ripping it's enemies apart.
Don't get me wrong I love what's been done, I'd just like to see more of what you guys can do. Simple is very nice, in this case VERY nice, but I get the idea that you guys can do so much(granted time and money are needed) but i know that this classic can really shine even when placed next to the new giants like DM3 or(ugh) UT3, ect.

As FATAL pointed out, jumping/leaping enemies are possible. See this thread in the ZDooM forums. More easy to do is allowing enemies to jump down from a greater height (the default DooM height for enemies is 24 units).

As for other physics, there are gravity-based features supported by ZDooM, GZDooM, and probably other source ports. Additional "physics" may be achievable through scripting, but I have not seen too much of that.

i imagine the old holy grail of shedding the state-based animation is involved?

Even though you are banned, what you are asking would pretty much require and entire new game methinks. Probably would be easier to just find a engine which already has those abilities and build doom around that.
