Screenshots
Thanx for the kind words Artur. Hope you had a happy Easter also. Well, here are the in-game screenshots I promised to let everyone get a look at what the textures are really like. These feature the textures that both Artur and I have been working on.
NOTE: they are all 1024x768 and 200dpi. They're around the 150kb mark each for those on dial-up. Screenshot 1 Screenshot 2 Screenshot 3 Screenshot 4 Screenshot 5 Screenshot 6 |

Those are great. I think that I should rework my flat_20 texture cause it looks kinda strange a little in game(according to screens). Anyways here are updates on textures I made for a while(they are based on the flat i made some time ago):

I managed to start doing some door textures. A very early W.I.P.. Really not final. Here it goes with the original:

I know this is a WIP, and it looks great. Here are some suggestions on the door:
-don't do a bevel on the higher areas, only bevel the recessed piece -make sure there is not line behind the skull and minimize the drop shadow on the top --this may mean changing the light angle on your drop shadow for the skull and wings --doing those two things will help make your skull feel like its part of the stone, and was carved into it, vs stuck onto it. -try playing around with having an engrave type cut that applies itself to the darker areas (cracks) -that may make your cracks look more real. -try finding a font where the S more closely matches the shape in the original ---Orrrrr....find a font where if you align two "U"s correctly they match that shape and then simply duplicate the results out much as you did with your S' Hope that's helpful. |

It looks like you need to remove some blue colour from the skull |

Honestly what would make the doors 'pop' (and take an ungodly amount of time and effort) would be if the entire door were done in 3d and then a snapshot of that 3d door were then saved as the door texture.
SHORT OF THAT.... ....you might consider building each piece of the door on a separate layer - this will give a lot more 3d-esque feel to things. Take the wings for example. If your wings were one layer and your wing detail was another layer it would allow you to bevel your detail and make it 'pop'. If you did something similar with your skull..you see where I'm going with it? |

ohmy. Well, sorry I haven't been around much; school, Cadets, the girlfriend, etc. all seem to be getting in the way of me getting to sit down and spend any time doing textures. I hope to be able to get going soon, but as you might already know, I'm on dial-up, and as my dad's in the construction business, tying up the lines is a big issue. Don't worry, I'm still willing to help; I'll just be a little beind with all this, that's all.
PS: The new textrues and screenies look sweet! Only thing is, with these new textures, some of us should really go through the orig. heXen wad and do some realignment, then re-release the new wad separately for whoever wants to use it in conjunction with the textures(although I'm not entirely sure if that's even legal...lol).That, of course, won't be for awhile, when the project's finished, but in the meantime, just something to think about. |

Great point, munky....although, as long as we have the lines in the textures line up with the lines in the original as I've noticed many of these do, realignment should not be necessary.

Just beginning to get over a nasty bout of pneumonia. I'm redoing the cave02.png and d_swamp2.png textures as well as the rest of the wooden doors/crates. Can someone please post the new d_winnow.png? Thanx

I see what you mean. I thought that door may have been done by the same artist who made those other awesome wood & steel door textures you used to be able to get on the jFiles site.
Here are a couple of updated textures: Flat-F_038.png ![]() Forest02.png ![]() I think these look closer to the originals and tile better. |

Nice work on those Stealer.
As for the door - I take in account all suggestments that were made. Looking forward to release smth on the end of the week=). As for now here is an update for flat-F_020 texture. Now it looks like the original and it is more realistic=) Flat-F_020.png

picks3y made it 'back in the day'. It has plenty of flaws, but it's the best door we have right now. If someone gets round to making a new one, fantastic - if they don't then it beats the dickens out of the ones we have currently.

Would I or anyone else be allowed to alter/modify/correct that door texture? I'm not sure whether anyone would be able to get in contact with the original artist.
EDIT: Fixed that door as requested and added similar textures to the others. If it gets added all credit goes to the original artist.

As long as the original artist gets credit I don't see an issue with that, I long had a post (probably still here somewhere) asking anyone not interested in having their textures used as part of this project to say so. If he/she comes back later and asks to have it removed, which I doubt, we can do so then.
Valherran: No estimate. This is very much (or has been so far at least) 2 guys working to release these textures as they have spare time. |

Here are the final Lava flats & Textures. I just viewed them in "Guardian of Fire" to make sure they were working right. I consider this really awesome as the lava really flows smoothly, and looks like lava. So, here are:
