13 Years of Doom Tribute Map: Sign up!.
To celebrate the 13th birthday of Doom I´ve thought of a little project we could undertake that would result in a Doom2 Map13 (or Doom e1m3)... Our little community tribute to the game.
The project would consist in a map we would do among 13 persons, one at a time. The map would be something in the lines of Doom_Dude´s XX YEARS OF DOOM maps so you can imagine how it would work... There could be many possibilities counting remakes, homages and diverse stuff but this particular project goes with this rules: Quote:
Don´t forget that you won´t start working until all letters before yours are done. Once you get the map remember that you only have 3 days maximum (we will post an approximate schedule plan) to do it. If you finish your map before time the next mapper will be able to take it instantly for 3 days or, if busy, he could wait until your period for having the map has expired and start working on his sheduled days. When things like Christmas and New Years Eve come around we could take a little break. This thing shouldn´t take more than a couple of months to be done but needs of your collaboration so, please, signup only if you´re really going to help!. Anyway, I´m first to sign up. I will take the last character that is available once the other 12 are picked up and will act as coordinator (this is a small project, anyone could do it so volunteer if you want to). You can start signing up now: remember, only 12 slots left !!.PS: Post any questions here along with your signups but try to keep it clean as I´ll have to read this thread from the beginning to the end in order to check who signed up and stuff. PPS: When all mappers are ready we´re likely to use this thread to post the monsters and weapons tables and stuff regarding the project so, again, keep it clean .PPPS: More rules are likely to appear and apply as we realise how many mistakes this plan has. |

Well, hm. On the one hand, a single 1/13 map portion probably wouldn't take that long, and 39 days is perfectly reasonable considering that the year is almost over anyway. On the other hand, it sometimes takes me up to a day to make one room. Curse my lack of speedmapping ability.
I have an idea for one of the O's, too, but I doubt I'd be able to make it with such a limited time frame. :/ |

What about the size of the letters can one mapper make an humongous 1 and the other mapper an very small 3.
I think an default size for the letters would look the best maybe you could make the map with the letters and send it to anyone who is in the project so he/she can work on the letter.

The letters, of course, have a standard size: the coordinator comes up with the layout of the letters already done so all the mappers have to do is fill them up. I think I stated it in the rules but they´re way too thick
. As for the map with the letters, that´s what I meant with "preset" - the letters are already done when the map comes to the person in question. All that is needed is imagination and something to fill the letter up.Every letter would be something like 640x1024 (unless every mapper wants it otherwhise, with I doubt) and that´s not a LOT of space to fill up in three days. Come on you two, you know you want to do it !.

Alright, alright. I'll try and get the first 'O' done. I think I'll be able to make it in the 3-day limit (plus, it's one of the final letters anyway). Plus, I won't get it until right after finals, which will work out nicely (there's never anything special that happens at the beginning of a new semester, after all).
Also, I'd like the yellow skull key. |

DutchDevil, custom flats... Well, I´m not sure of allowing them: we´re celebrating Doom but well, I guess that everyone will play this with their port so as long as they stay at 64x64 it´s O.k.
For the three people who signed: I´ll be sending PM´s to tell you my mail adress so we can get in further touch. So far we´re something like: 13 YEARS OF DOOM. Plus the RED KEY and YELLOW KEY are already taken. Only 9 slots left!, Who else is in?. PS: Ace, do you want the O on "of" or the O on "Doom?". To this project I give a fierce and resounding meh.
I'll take the Y but I make no promises of getting it finished so we should have a backup Y.

Since we're talking of such a small area, and you're in the lead, I'll join with O (of 'doOm', even though it doesn't matter that much). However, I'll ask Ace if he has the same plans as I do. If so, then I must withdraw.

Okay then... There are still slots left (remember, the last one to be chosen is mine´s) for more people to join in so there´s still time for those who are thinking about it
. I can say we should start working on this somewhere between Cristmas and the New Years Eve if people keep on joining. For now I´d like to add a few things to clarify:-Customs flats are allowed by Dutch Devil´s request. Custom textures were also allowed. Just try not to use too many of them: we don´t want the map to weigh like 13mb!!!. -All custom flats and textures will be sent along with the map in a separate wad file from mapper to mapper. The last one to map will have all textures available for him-her!. -All letters will be something like 640x1024. Some will be bigger (for example, the enlarged D and M from Doom) and some will have little area to map in (like the 1 or the F) but all will roughly be something like that. You can add outside passages and rooms but don´t overdo it. -Remember: no port stuff, not even Boom extensions!. I´ll be working on the tables soon so keep in tune and keep on signing in!. |

This thread has bumped Fatal's contest thread out of the sticky collection.
![]() Good luck with the wad. I might be able to do one of the later letters if I can get my editing engine running again. I seem to have stalled and need some of Dutch Devil's gas.

Sorry about Fatal´s post :P... The sticky is very much appreciated: it will surely catch some attention!.
As for letters, you could take the M on Doom and be the last to map, that would give you time to feed on coffeine and teine enough to fire your engines again .
