So what are the advantages of getting these released open-source? I don't really get what the big deal is, so please explain it to me!

A big ok that let's developers know that they can fully lawfully utilize a given source code?

According to the stupid license Activision tacked onto that code, Legacy is illegal. Kind of hard to get people to distribute "illegal" software.

Shouldn't all games that fallow the GPL pretty much be the same thing though?
I mean Doom fallows it, what should be the difference? Wasn't Heretic and Hexen based on the Doom source in the first place and then basically modded from that point? Quote:

Argh we wont be able to run Heretic or Hexen alone on todays o/s (properly) without a sourceport of some sort, can we? I mean how can anything prosper without?
Doesn't the GPL have some sorta budget rental plan or something , or is it a matter of someone granting someone the ok?

Good luck getting anything from Activision. You know how publishers are but I rank Activision high on the list of publishers so I say there is some hope.

I think there is some hope, but it is starting to look grim...

There is always hope. It's just a matter of asking the right person in the right way.
Good luck infinding out who that is.

You should submit it to Slashdot. When that lot gets stirred up something always happens, be it good or bad.

Has anyone tried just mailing them a post card? I mean it may sound a bit corny but it might get into some different hands that way.
