How many 1.9 betas will be released?
I was wondering how many 1.9 betas will be released and why. Are they released so people can play it and see if there any bugs then another beta is made to see if those are fixed? Or are they just released to make people stop asking about (and thus prolonging as it is said) the release date of 1.9?

lol @ last Q and A.
Since we're on a question kick... Say Beta 4 comes out and I decide to quit being a hater and download it... Can I just rip the executables (and other important stuff) out and replace my 1.8.6 files with them? Kinda don't want to redo my custom Kickstart work. |

Personally I would never recommend simply replacing the contents of the /bin directory as a method to upgrade.
There are several major changes planned for the 1.9.0 release (the entire Doomsday directory structure is likely to be completely redesigned) and other reorganisation work has already been completed (for example - Doomsday's own data files are now collected into Doomsday.PK3 which resides currently in the /data directory). Many other files have also been updated in 1.9.0 not just the binaries. For example, jDoom.WAD and several of the DED files have also seen important changes. As to the question about number of betas before 1.9.0 is released: I imagine there will be at least beta4, beta5 and probably beta6 too. There is so much being changed to form the basis of the 1.9.0 that we need this extended beta period. I too would fully recommend all users to upgrade to 1.9.0-beta3. It has proven itself to be very stable and reliable (more so than the offical 1.8.6 release), it also allows users the chance to see some of what we plan for 1.9.0 full (including a glimpse at the new BIAS lighting model). |

The screenshot was in the jDRP thread...
I hope to get splitscreen done at some point in the 1.9.x series. Maybe 1.9.1 |
