Custom midis

Are they allowed?

If so, can you use a mid of a song made by some band, or that has been in some other game (doom 1 for example).
I'm nearly happy with the MAP07 music, but some other midi would fit a bit better to my map.

I used a custom midi for my map. I don't see any harm in it.

Not that most of the textures are legal.

Worse, you mentioned possible violation of the copyright law.

Not even your death will stop the RIAA from coming... to get you.

Anyway, I know I'm using a different midi in my level; even if I can't find a new one, then I'll just grab one from Doom. I never did care much for Doom II's music.

Bah, the RIAA doesn't even bother about MIDI files anymore. They used to before MP3s were all the rage. Would have been funny if a lot of good MIDI sites hadn't been nuked off the net. Apparently doing covers in MIDI format kills CD sales.

That's true! I wouldn't have bought doom 2 if I would have heard the midis before buying it.

Yeah, most of DooM II's music does suck. The music of Map02 and Map31 isn't too shabby, though. But I doubt that those maps are sold separately.

Well you could say Map31 and Map32 are, music and all (even though they're the wrong tracks for both maps)

True, though if you bought those you wouldn't be able to kill Commander Keen 4 times over. Or see what Hans Gross looked like after his extreme makeover

But I wasn't even talking about the music in DooM II. It does suck though. Half the maps suck too.

Well, at least I know I'm not alone in my distaste for most of the music in Doom II.

Well, the music isn't that bad in it's own right. It just gets annoying/repetitive after a while (Especially Map10).

It's more a matter of taste, though. Slow-paced, repetitive music isn't my music of choice to begin with.

I got the midi idea when I heard map04 once again. It was under a nanosecond when I quickly pressed F4 and turned musics off.

Actually, it's not the repetitiveness that gets me, it's the tinyness. If Doom's music was the woofer, Doom 2's would be the tweeter.

Doom: dunnnn dunnnn dun dunnnn daaaa boom!
Doom 2: ding ding ding TING TING TING ding

Also, it lacked any form of atmosphere to provide to the settings. While Doom had some 'fun' tracks that were good for the action, and some dark tracks that were good for the "what evil lurks around the corner" elements, Doom 2's music was just 'there'. It had no feeling.
