Keyboard problems?

I've got doomsday running on one machine [Athlon, Win 98 or Win 2K, nvidia FX5200] but cannot get it to work on a K6/3 with Voodoo Banshee and Win 98.

The screen keeps changing to and from console, the cursor moves down menus, and so on.

I've tried turning off various options, which makes it more stable [at least stops the screen flicking to and from console and Heretic menu], but it still takes no notice of keyboard input.

I've used the same files to install it on both machines.

I'm hoping this is something obvious.... any ideas?
