Can I get more out of my 1.4 athlon 1700
I can run doom fine, but it especially slows down when there is more than 3 moving objects being rendered. I know I need more ram. (I have 256) but I though I would have a better frame rate with my Radeon 9600xt. Would the ram actually make doom run smoother?

Create an autoexec.cfg file, put it in base and add these lines
set com_videoRam "128" <---- change to what u got set r_displayRefresh "75" set r_useOptimizedShadows "1" set g_decals "0" set g_showBrass "0" set g_doublevision "0" set image_anisotropy "2" <----- the lower the faster! |

Ram, harddrive space and cpu speed. Get 512mb of ram, about 100+ gigs of hard-drive space, and AT LEAST 1.8 Ghz of cpu speed, and doom will run fine, just fine. Trust me, I know, and your video card is slightly better than mine. Oh, and no V-Sync. It takes away about 7fps for no reason at all.

Using the v sync in the game is highly recommended as all it seems to do is take away the tearing effect, without losing fps. Keep it to app. controlled in the drivers. Especially because i have a 3.4 ghz comp oced to 3.57 plus a 6800 gt oced to ultra, i get mad tearing with v sync off. ID and others recommend turning it on in doom 3.

My computer here has 512 Ram about 2.0 gighertz, and a nVidia Geforce 4/400 graphics card, but it still won't play which sucks. Oh well, I can still play it on my parents computer.

The Geforce 4 MX series is just a hyped up version of the Geforce 2, but the geforce 4 is still not very good. And V-Sync is only useable on machines that get too-good performances in games.
