Help with the file Retres.wad
I need some major help here. I downloaded BOOM and the resource wad file Retres.wad, says it's supposed to have like all these textures and what not. I tried to run Demon Sanctuary, I think it's something like sv1, but I have all the files I need to play this level and I keep getting error messages about textures missing from the Retres.wad file. And, how can I tap into this resource wad? Like if I'm using Edmap to make my maps, it looks for Doom.wad for all the textures, so how do I make it access the information in the Retres.wad file so I can add more textures, and then be able to go back into Doom and run around with all these new textures? For some reason tho, Boom seems to crash alot on me too.

I can't help you with the specifics of Edmap, but map editors generally have an option to include images present in an external wad file. If you select this option you will need to navigate to the folder in which Retres.wad is stored, and select the file. Then, when you get back into your map you'll have access to the Retres textures. To run your map with the new textures, make sure that Retres.wad is in the same folder as your map wad, then use the command line:
doom -file yourmap.wad retres.wad (Replace doom with doom2, boom, zdoom, or other executable as appropriate for yourmap.wad) Another, more cumbersome way to do it is to use a utility such as XWE, DeepSea, or WinTex to copy/merge yourmap.wad and retres.wad. Yourmap.wad will then contain all the textures. After the map is complete, and prior to its release, delete the entries taken from retres.wad and use the same command line as above to run yourmap.wad |
