I'll take that back. I believe you do need to use the jdrp file for the hi-res textures. Guess I was thinking about something else

Welcome folks!
Please tell me - which Doom modification (zDoom, jDoom, whateverDoom) supports DIGITAL sounds and music? I still wish to make a TC when I've got some time, but I just can't figure out which Doom port is able to handle digital sound and music. It can be MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG, but please, forget about MUS and MID and IMF, and all these ancient stuffs! |

Ignoring the fact that wheter a port can play MP3, Ogg s etc is a strange thing to use to decide which port to make a mod on.
Indeed, both Doomsday and ZDoom use FMOD and so can handle all sort's of format's including MP3, Ogg etc. However, the current betas of the next version of Dday can't handle anything other than mus files properly because the sound code is in the middle of a rewrite. |

FMOD is a library which is definitely not compatible with the GNU GPL or Open Source software.
Is it being removed from Doomsday? (I mean completely removed, none of that "here's a plugin you can use to get the good sound" trick). Last edited by Ajapted; December 4th, 2008 at 05:47 AM. |

It already has been removed. Most likely SDL_mixer will be dropped too in a future version because well, its just not very good. Chances are we'll be going with OpenAL all the way.

Good to know.
It's a shame there is no good sound/music libs which are free software. The version of timidity in EDGE's source has had a lot of tidying and polish, feel free to use it, and my low-level sound blitting code in s_blit.cc is rock solid. |

Thank you for your kind advices, folks
![]() Now I would like to have another question for you. I would like to put some MIDIs into Doom (Final Doom), I'm curious about how they would sound. My question is: can you name a software or a tool which can overwrite a MIDI in the game and replace it with my new one? I bet it has to be a MUS converter as well, since Doom can handle only MUS files. Soo...can you tell me which software is capable of putting my MIDIs into Doom? |

Well there are actually some really old executables MIDI2MUS and MUS2MIDI to convert with.
You can either create a batch or just drag n drop the midi file onto the executable. http://drsleep.newdoom.com/sound.shtml When it comes to changing the music in a pwad be it midi, mus, ogg, mp3, I suggest using Xwe and just load the new music or edit>replace existing. The important thing is the names if your not using any sound script or mapinfo lumps etc. For example the music for Doom2 map01 is D_RUNNIN, so you would name your costum music the same in this case, D_RUNNIN. http://drsleep.newdoom.com/files.shtml Last edited by MR_ROCKET; December 17th, 2008 at 07:57 PM. |

It's easier to just put it in a pk3 and write a small ded for it
you don't need a special windows only program then |

hey i'm a longterm fan of the doom's and i've never attempted to upgrade or mod anything. i've got a reasonably decent pc running vista and i've already downloaded the .dll files to my doom collection, which runs well in spite of occasional hiccups. without being rude or anything i am going mad trying to follow all the threads here, i just want the snowberry (?) download, so i can play with funky 3d models and hi res textures as well as i want that version of doom 64, could anyone here lay it out in plain english with links how to achieve this? I really need your help guys i'm not a full blown noob but this forum business is clearly the realms of people who seriously know just what they're talking about whereas i do not. I will repay you somehow if its possible i really want to play doom with all the fun new elements and right now i don't even know how to get the custom wad's working (embarrassing i know). if anyone can help me you will be assisting someone who really loves these games. thats all i can say really

Gah... >.<
Okay so, I'm pretty new to here, and I seem to be having some serious trouble dealing with Doom. I just moved and now the only computer I have is a Mac OS X, PowerPC G4 laptop. My previous computer was a Windows XP so I'm having some serious trouble adjusting, and I'm going through Doom withdrawl. I can't find any versions of the classic Doom anywhere anymore. I don't even want a bunch of add-ons, or any extra wad files. I feel like I'm missing something really obvious here, but I used to find the classic Doom all over the place as a freeware or shareware version under Dom 95 or something that I could just download easily, but nothing I find seems to be compatible with PowerPC. Can anybody help me here? 'Cause I'm at a loss.

How do? Recent convert to Doomsday here and thoroughly enjoying it. Apart from one thing: When moving through a level as normal, occasionally the movement keys will 'stick', sending me into walls, over ledges or into the path of enemies. Mouse movement is unaffected. It's mainly when strafing and it's pretty annoying. Everything else runs spot on, graphics and lighting effects are fine, so I don't think it's the performance of my machine. It is sometimes accompanied by a beep, and I have to let the player dance around and settle down before I can carry on. (I've usually ended up in a slime pit or been killed by this point!)
Any help would be much appreciated, I'm gagging to try out multiplayer. I have tried the wiki and couldn't find anything on this issue. |

I've just recently tried jDoom and using v1.714 as that seems to work best and the 3d models are great although the network code could be better and finally got rid of those blurry textures (why are they?) but there's one thing i can't fix and thats the chat binds - why does bind 1 "say follow me..." in user.cfg not work?? Tried every which way for the say command to work but still can't work it out.. but in console i can get it to work just not able to bind it and yes i AM in multiplayer mode when trying it out

Correction: The actual bind i use and doesn't work is bind 1 say "follow me..." not the one incorrectly stated above.
