Rised 3D Bombs Out

I installed Risen 3D and the new launcher and can't get it to run. I get this error.

Executable: Risen3D ßV1.5.81 Mar 23 2004
Game path : K:\Risen 3D\
EDIT MODE : OFF
Z_Init : 128.0 Mb allocated for zone.
ERROR UDIR: only takes one argument

Or I get:
-iwad takes only one argument

Its driving me bloody crazy.

Doom Dude, I've read somewhere the launcher is a bit unpredictable, try using a batch file and run it from the command prompt.

I give up. I got the port running but it won't go fullscreen and any wad I try to run causes it to crash.

Crash in what way ? Can you provide more details. Or conversely, you can always email Graham.

Current version is 83. Works for me on Win98 and on XP just fine.

Install in a root directory called RISEN3D (NO blank) to simplify things and avoid long filename issues which I'm pretty sure is what is happening.

You need -iwad c:\doom2\doom2.wad or use the other methods for getting the DOOM2.WAD (or DOOM.wad).

Reset Window mode in the Options menu. Sounds like you have a -window command being issued on the command line (through the launcher). You can do all this manually too and bypass the launcher.

Its in a directory like so: K:\Risen 3D..... so the blank space is screwing it up? I'll try it again tomorrow.

hawkwind2, Its crashing in the way that it refuses to boot with any wad. The port doesn't even finish booting, it just bombs out with that ugly error message saying ERROR UDIR: only takes one argument.

I can guarantee it is the blank space that is fouling you up. Also don't use hyphens etc as they will too stuff things up.

There is also a new launcher which apparently deals with this issue http://risen3d.newdoom.com/

Roger that. I meant to reply to this the other day but I got tied up in other things. I also haven't gotten around to trying the new launcher or changing the directory to have no blank spaces. Thanks for the help. Will try to apply some of it when I'm less busy. heh

So, is it now more stable?

It has been out for a while now. I was wanting to know before I install it.

The verson I am using is good, but some of the features in the newwer one sounds good too.

It is VERY STABLE. Current version is r88. At under 2Mb plus Launcher - what have you got to lose ? Highly recommended .

I've never been able to get the thing to work properly - which is surprising as Doomsday (even the old 1.7.7 branch that risen is based on) has never given me such troubles (even the new 1.8 alpha of Doomsday works well for me). I know Hawkwind and a couple of others swear by it but what with all the reports of crashes and causing problems with drivers I'm not really inspired to try risen again.

Not true at all. As hawkwind2 said, it's VERY STABLE - although a few releases had serious mistakes as any of the ports do. But that's assuming you have current drivers, a 3D enabled card, current Windows updates and at least 128MB of memory - and more if you use models. Btw, I've never heard of any "driver problems", you must be thinking of Legacy

Latest rev is 89. It's the ONLY GL port that displays DOOM and BOOM levels without visual corruption, even when the level actually has mistakes and it's lightning fast. I've added GL node support to DeePBSP to correct a few of those too as well as 2-3 times faster than GLBSP Also support large levels (>32k sidedefs, etc). And also works for DOOMSDAY

Will release DeePsea 11.9 (includes DeePBSP) which will use the ingame texture alignment feature and save the changes in the level as soon as I have time to update the web pages.

Slide , you haven't read R3DCredits.txt. Here is an excerpt "Since Risen3D is based on the Doomsday V1.7.11 engine ..." plus added features from later doomsday versions, latest Abbspack for example.

I've tried using the Risen 3D too, so far I cannot get it to work... I get an Active X 429 error each time. I'm talking to Abbs about it right now, but we cannot find a way to fix it...Damn Windows XP......

But R3D doesn't use Active X?

I use XP, 2000 and 98 (even with a Voodoo3) and R3D works in all of them.

Meaning, there's something wrong with your system - first guess - some addon's to the desktop? To see if it's a model issue, use -nomd2 when starting.

After thinking some more, I believe you are using the launcher and this error message is from the launcher, not R3D. Do a google search for "active x 429 error" and you'll see many vbasic error msgs just like this and solutions to this problem (so I won't repeat them here).

Since that's probably what it is (IOW not really R3D), launch it manually. IOW, you really don't need the launcher at all. I use DeePsea to test, but all it does is pass a regular set of parameters, the only 1s worth mentioning are: -iwad (where DOOM2.WAD is located) and -file filetotest -warp xx
