Pen and Paper RPGs

I'm a nerd! Well, not quite yet. I will be by Friday, though, as I've been invited to play one for the first time. Heh. We're going to be playing Werewolf: The Apocalypse.

We started working on my character today, but he had to leave and he took the guidebook with him. I want to try to finish the sheets tonight, but its looking like I'll have to wait for tomorrow, since I can't find anything that has all the info I need to do that... Oh well.

Any of you play any of these types of games? Is Werewolf a good one? From what I've read so far, it looks like a lot of fun.

Last time I played was years and years ago. Basically though, the quality of the game is determined by how good the DM is at storytelling. If you have a good one, it should be excellent fun, and will hopefully draw you in. If you have a bad one, there's a risk of boredom and lots of arguments.

It's a White Wolf game. It was released in 92.

Only one I played was Dungeons & Dragons and it was a lot of fun and like ToXic said, a good DM makes all the difference.

I'm not much of a fantasty kind of person, myself. D&D's probably fun, but Werewolf looks a lot more appealing to me. Have you guys played any of the other White Wolf games, such as Vampire: The Masquerade, Mage: The Ascention, or Hunter: The Reckoning, etc.?

Woo! I got my character all finished today. I put a lot of thought into him. My friend, who's also the DM, gave me a pretty big break, too. He's starting me out with a pretty powerful Fetish. Of course, i still have to get good rolls. But I still get double damage. w00t!

As a warning, I'll probably be really giddy when i get back tomorrow, so be on alert for a run down of what all happened.

Fun to play these games. I remember my character changed so often, I had to re-write my profile about fifteen times.

w00t!!! I just got back. Oh man, that was a blast. We only got to RP for about four hours, because we had two other people who had to make characters. And some of our GM's plans were kind of messed up, because one of the others had to go home -- Anne, another first timer, wasn't feeling too good, so she left.

But other than that, it was good fun. We're going to play some more on monday. This time, though, we're going to get to play from about 10 am to 5:30 pm. That'll be fun too.

I used to be sort of a... "skeptic" I guess. I thought it was stupid. But now that I've played, I'm hooked. Unfortunately I won't be able to ever play much... I'm going to be swamped with school. Oh well. There's always the summer. I imagine we're all going to be playing a LOT.

Yeah, the first time I got to play Champions, I was estatic after I got done. I started thinking, "What the hell have I missed?"
Pen and paper RPG's are a lot more fun that any other.

Hell yeah! The graphics are great. The story is absolutely anything you want. And it can be as violent as you want.

I play Pen and Paper whenever I can. The only one I can and know how to play though is 1st Edition AD&D, as those are the only Books my friend has. And yes, he has them from the 70's.

Yeesh! Get with the times, man! White Wolf games are the way to go

The books are relatively cheap, and you can just print off additional character sheets from the 'net if you need them. And you've already got dice, I presume. If you ever get the chance, give one of them a try!

I've played these kinds of games... but not any of the ones you guys played... heck... no one has ever played most of the ones I've played.

Because I make my own.
I make them right from scratch.. write the rule books.. guidlines...characters....then chuck it in a corner and make a new one.
I've played a few of them but not many..its more fun to make them.

alright, so since this thread was brought back, i just remembered something, i am looking for a "dune: chronicles of the imperium" book. this was a pen and pencil rpg made by Last Unicorn Games, that was canceled after Wizards of the Coast obtained the company. there were only a few thousand printed, so i'm not expecting to find a mint condition example, i would settle for even a scanned version that i could download. any help would be good

Never heard of it, man... I'd like to make a request myself. Does anyone know where I'd be able to get my hands on a copy of Cyberpunk? My dad's told me about it, and it sounds really interesting.

NO! How dare you tell me what to do! HAHAHA!
And no, I don't have dice. Right now I'm at the mercy of a crappy dice rolling program. I still can't find a hobby store that sells them. If someone knows where I could order some, I would forever be your slave. And I mean it, too. I will sell my soul to you!*

I've played Baulder's Gate, and that uses the 2nd edition rules. Is that Far enough into the times for you Nomad?

My dad was really into it, he still has all the books and everything. Weapon manuals, rule book, expansion manuals, he was really into it. But I doubt he will want to part with them.

That sounds cool. I tried making my own a long time ago and ended up with a half-assed, d&d clone so I gave up.

Sticky time!
