I would like to know two things;
First off, how do you set that flare-like look to lights? That is very cool and I am very naive to such things. Thanks. And secondly, is there anyone that just creates textures? It is fine that no one wants to help me with my TC but is there anyone that would create some textures for me? I have someone working on some right now, but in my mind, the more abundant the textures (keeping in mind that they look decent) the more interesting things will look. Thank you. Black |

You can always ask authors of other mods if you can use their textures, all it costs you is a credit in your TC's text file if they say yes.

A bunch of guys in the Legacy forum do textures (look in the topic about 3D textures). Mystic and DooM_Dude do a bunch too.

Yeah I should have explained it better.
OK, I noticed some other author's screen shots of their maps and the lights had a 'glow-like' affect to them. It's all shiny and it hurts your eyes like a real light would, kind of. Do you know what I'm talking about? How do you do that? Is that something you can do in ZDoom? I really don't know how else to explain it. Thanks. Black |

Those coronas around the lights are built into ports to appear by default in GL mode. Most screenshots around here seem to be done in Legacy, which uses those a lot. They look cool. They're not something that you get in an editor though. They come with the light sprites and are hard-coded into the engine.

Ah... I see...
Well that sucks. Wouldn't want people not to think I'm trying my hardest to get all the little details right. So I'm assuming that it doesn't work for ZDoom? Black |

Nope, ZDOOM is software only.

not exactly but kind of, legacy is a port of zdoom so it sort of IS zdoom in a way
at any rate these are source code hacks, so if you wanna do this use the "doom source code" but i warn you, many source code hacks tend to crash(like the "insane" hack) because the authors don't always know what they're doing |

If you have the source then it's not a hack. Source ports don't crash nearly as often as the original executable.

Well, I don't know why my homepage won't work but I did make one. Kind of.

I took a look at the two pictures you e-mailed me. The ones in the second picture weren't bad at all, the texture on the right in the first picture could use a little patching up.

not source ports like zdoom and legacy
but source MODs like insane crash frequently the source ports your using are likely the commonly used ones, and they're commonly used because the DON'T crash but what about the OTHER ones? |

Legacy is NOT a port of ZDoom. It's a completely different and independent port. It's older too.

Nope. Legacy was around before ZDoom. The two ports are very very different in what they can do and how they go about doing it. They don't have that much in common. I don't remember seeing anything about ZDoom in the console anyway. Are you sure that wasn't something else with a Z in it?

No ZDOOM code in Legacy, Zdoom is based off BOOM and HEXEN. Legacy was based off the original source released. BOOM stuff was added later. I'd be surprised if they had any code at all in common.

Sure they do. I don't think either of them touched the original DooM AI code so that's in common.

The changes are not really that radical.
ZDOOM now might be a bit different (as it evolved). As a point of interest, Randy did the Hexen stuff BEFORE Hexen source was released [Yes I'm sure]
