Hey Aliotroph? The other day I refired up Blade Of Darkness and started to replay it as the amazon (never finished the game as the barbarian) and I find it very addictive at this point. The level designs, monster models / deaths are kewl. Game also has lots of atmosphere and weapons plus some very neat music. Anyhow today I decided to give the editor anouther try as I found a tutorial on getting started. Tis weird but this editor is set up like a DooM editor and you make sectors by placing vertices on a 2d grid. I made my first room and followed the tutorial to a 'T' (well not really but mostly. lol) Anyhow I hit a snag!!! I thought maybe Aliotroph? or somebody might be able to help me figure something out....

Ummmmm Nevermind. I made a shortcut to notepad in my editing folder and dragged that file onto the shortcut and opened the file that way.

That game does look kewl. I should find a copy to try out sometime. Anyway, you can always edit a .bat file by right-clicking it and choosing "Edit". It will open in notepad (this doesn't work in WinXP though). If you want to open a file in a program just open the program and drag the file onto it. That usually works. Otherwise use the menu. You can change which file types are associated with which programs in the "Folder options" dialogue in the view menu (tools in NT/ME/2000/XP). You can find this in any Explorer window you have open.

Yeah anyhow I ran into a problem with my bat file. The path(s) to the editng tools have spaces and I read theres not supposed to be spaces.....such as the folder: Blade Of Darkness. So what the hell do I do with that? Bah I give up on this .bat stuff.

Do a dir in a dos window and you will see the truncated name something with a ~ in it.
Use that one instead of the one with spaces. Or you could try wrapping the directory name in double quotes. ------------------ Smoke me a kipper... at Doom Heaven Yahoo bigal_m MSN Alastair_hm ICQ 2321212 AIM ahmdoom |

Yeah I might try that but my luck with DOS is real bad. Anyhow I'm totally baffled how they made the kewl maps in Blade with this weirdo editor. :/

Aliotroph? some of the menu in the Blade Editor is in Spanish. LOL. I didn't see any 3D view thinghy either (It might be here but I didn't explore the editor that far). Also a mid to high ceiling is set to 10. LOL.
I'm good with Worldcraft, Qoole and DoomCad. ![]() ------------------ The Megawad: Home of Vilecore All that glitters is not gold. ------------------------ Sometimes it's not easy following the path of least resistance. |

I wish I could concentrate on it at all. I've had too much emotional crap go on over the last couple years:
-first parents hate each other -then they each have boyfriends/girlfriends -then my grandma has a really bad stroke -then parents divorce (I now have two houses) -then I meed Rachel and start up with Isabel -the thing with Cute becomes a controversy with my friends and dad (cause of our ages) -then Rachel moves -then dad breaks up with girlfriend and then gets back together -and all the while Cute's mom is a real pain It's been pretty psycho, that's for sure. ![]() ------------------ "Killed Aliotroph?" - obituary from Perfect Dark |

Yeah, it's mostly okay now. I just want Cute's mom to shut up (I have plans about that) and I want my grandma to do well. She's better now than she was then though.

I translated the Spanish using an online Spanish to English dictionary but it just translates funny but I think it says what i suspected. The error message isn't really saying what the problem is...it's just saying there is an error and it couldn't produce the map file.
Anyhow when I followed the tutorial I kinda strayed and made a sector touching the first and I wasn't sure if that was ok to do or not. LOL. So I'm going to have to give it anouther go and stick to what the tut says. ;D ------------------ The Megawad: Home of Vilecore All that glitters is not gold. ------------------------ Sometimes it's not easy following the path of least resistance. |

Its DOWNRIGHT CONFUSING!
The editor isn't very user friendly if your the one who didn't make the danged thing....or your somebody who doesn't know the guy who made the danged thing. You place vertices on a grid to make a room. When you place the last on the first it makes a sector. (There are no brushes and what your doing is carving out rooms out of a solid block). So it's like a cross between DoomCad / Worldcraft and UnrealEd. Parts of the menu are in Spanish. I'm still messing with just making a basic room (I didn't give it that 2nd try yet) Have a lokk at this link here to get a better idea of how wacky this all is. ------------------ The Megawad: Home of Vilecore All that glitters is not gold. ------------------------ Sometimes it's not easy following the path of least resistance. |

Heh, I conceived of a map structure like that. It could get very messy it seems to me. It doesn't look too hard at first though.
Speaking of wacky links, here's a good one: http://www.obsoletecomputermuseum.com You can find some really odd looking boxes here. ![]() ------------------ "Killed Aliotroph?" - obituary from Perfect Dark |

That's about the size of it. I think if one was to keep using it, after awhile it would actually make sense. I'd love to actually make just one small map for Blade, just to see what I can do with the cool lighting and reflective water. ![]() <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica, serif">quote:</font><hr width="100%" size="1" noshade><font face="Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica, serif" size="2">Quake editing look like a doodle compared to that.</font><hr width="100%" size="1" noshade></BLOCKQUOTE> LOL.
