Just thought I'd mention that I gave it a shot, and its bloody genious! Lots of lovely features, like if X is available it uses a gfx interface, otherwise it uses a console-based interface, its beauty incarnate

Yeah, the idea was from metzgermeister and I loved it too (much better than an rpm package!). It's based on Loki install program, the same things used for installing q3a and other games ported by Loki. Really good work!

Thanks ;-) The credits really should go to Loki, I just used their open source setup tool and had a look at the Quake3 installer for the scripts. The downside of course is the size compared to the plain gzipped files.
