Can anyone tell me how I can get JDoom to run in anything higher then 640x480? If I try to use a higer resolution it gives me an init failed to open. I am running a V5 5500 with the latest drivers and DX8. I have tried it in D3D mode as well and it fails there as well. Any help would be appreciated...

Check out my prior post...
The way to pull it off is to manually edit the config file itself. If you go into jdoom.cfg file...then edit it to the desired resolution, as I have... # Default resolution (X). defResX 1024 # Default resolution (Y). defResY 768 ...then start the game. I still can't edit it in-game...but I can set it up before I play... Have fun! -Nate |

Tried that. Just give me an initOpenGL error when I try it. No matter where I try and set it I get the error. Thanks for the help though.

When specifically do you get the error, at startup, or in-game?
On mine (used to have a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP), I got that exact same error anytime I tried adjusting the setting in-game. When you alter the .cfg file as I described then start the game, the change is in place when the program starts...you still can't alter it in-game. PS: Whenever you get that error, re-boot...in most cases JDoom will not start under any circumstance after getting that error until you do reboot. -Nate |

I get it when I am trying to get into the game. I don't even get to see the menu before I get the error. It is almost immediate. I have tried rebooting too and it hasn't helped. I wonder if it has anything to do with DX8???

Well, I use DX8...so it's not that. What version of the V3 drivers are you using? I used the last set from 3dfx...1.07.00...might be a driver issue. I also remember the V3 had a utility to remove old outdated GL drivers...you may have leftovers.
Hope that helps... -Nate |

Actually I am using a V5 5500 and I already went and cleaned all the old GL stuff out. I'm getting ready to do a fresh install when my new cpu shows up so maybe that will take care of it...

I too have a Voodoo3 and I've noticed this problem. If you are running at a certain resolution and want to change it in game then JDoom is more than likely to crash. You can change the resolution in the game without it crashing like this:
Select the resolution you want Select the MAKE DEFAULT option Quit and Restart JDoom If you select MAKE CURRENT, then it will crash with a Voodoo3/4/5. Doing the above procedure is the same as editing the jdoom.cfg only less messing around. ------------------ Stimpee @ http://www.newdoom.com/stimpee |
