Post I give up

Sigh, the internet is really crappy in this day and age. I try to get hosting for one little TC, and I come up with nothing. Now I have to stick to Geocities.

Free stuff on the net is going down the drain. Soon we'll all be paying for email. Next time you download a file it could cost you a dollar. :/

You can make your own box into a web server if you have the bandwidth. You don't even need to register a domain. My brother did it. I'll look into that. I think free e-mail will stay. Novell even provides it and they don't have ads on theirs.

Looks like we are all being made to pay for the mistakes of the greedy ISP companies.

My main ISP is bleuyonder (Cable Telewest) who are part owned by microsoft. Recently I decided not to bother buying their broadband package when they insisted they would have to knock a hole in my bedroom wall. Now for the last week I have been unable to log on using my blueyonder account, it keeps asking for the password then booting me off, same with the email. They wont even let me use the webmail thing on their website. They say the problem doesnt affect enough people for them to bother sorting it in a hurry. I am sure it is deliberate on their part to pressure me into taking broadband but I would rather switch to a different phone company than do that now.

FilePlanet has already tried to collect money so you don't have to "wait in line."

where did you ask for hosting? Doomworld?! They rejected my page I worked long and hard on with no givin reason. They are scum scum scum and should die, especially Linguica. Plus, doomworld has popups.

Doomcenter's hosted pages have been down for months.

Newdoom, come to think of it, would be pretty cool for hosting.

This was the first place I went to, but because the TC is of a game older than Doom it doesn't fit into the New Doom category or something like that...

Then I looked at Doom Center, but like you said, their stuff is down and has been down for quite a while.

Next was Phobos Lab, site says "Any game in the Doom series," e-mail made it sound like "Doom 3 only."

Doom World was last, but they say on their site that if you receive no reply then you didn't make it, so I don't care about that.

If you do a Blakestone TC, will it have new stuff like levels with more advanced design behind them? If that's the case, then I don't see why it can't be hosted here. It's still DooM, but with a different theme. It would have the Blakestone atmosphere but that's just a theme. It's a DooM TC like any other.

I was planning on throwing in user created levels (there are a few on the net, and I can make some myself). I don't know if I'll add anything new besides the mouse look and fog, etc. that Legacy already adds, but the TC will definately use the features of Legacy to execute the original game play.

The theme would work really really well with Legacy's features. 3D floors would even be fun in that style. The problem with Blake Stone's gameplay was that it was too mazy looking and you got lost. The diversity was lacking. The atmosphere was good otherwise. Legacy's engine would make it really fun. Maybe I'll do a level or two for that sometime.

Yeah, too many of those levels had jagged edges. I'll probably end up making most of the levels from scratch. Lots of decorational entities to use though, hope I can fit them all in.

I encourage some things added. Stuff like pools of deep water and bridges. Since it's space themed there can be reactors and computer rooms and stuff. Blake Stone had too many living area type places in it. The diversity was a bit lacking.

3d would be a bit difficult with the "block" level structure, pools wouldn't be terribly hard though.

If you take chunks from some of the textures you might be able to make some good stuff. Some of the DooM textures might work too.

Perhaps I could do half classic and half with a new style. I still have textures and patches I can replace.

Cool

It costs me $32 dollars a month for cable from Eastlink and there is rarely a problem. What is kewl, they have thier own game servers and run Quake II and UT games. I used to jump on the Quake II one and have a blast with my low ping. I'm not even sure if they still have the Quake II one running....have to look into that again.
