Weapons:
Distruptor Weapon: Sends a wave of distortion bouncing all around (and fading in strength with every bounce until gone.) The projectile would use some of Carmack's amazing pixel/vertex shading stuff to show a region of slightly discolored visual distortion around it. The enemy/monster would vibrate and appear to be partially "tuning out" and becoming distorted also when it gets hit, until it just flashes out of existence or disintegrates. You can use it around corners. It should also cause damage on the player if he's stupid enough to have it bounce back on himself. Slick Oil: Make the enemies fall all over the place with a coating of slime on the floor. Makes the player slide also (so be careful.) This would be great for tight spots where you need a few more seconds to get out of a jam. Gameplay: World-based tactics: I want to lead monsters into traps and be forced to be smart about how I get an opponent beyond just shooting them. I also want to bring back old-school Doom tactics where the best way to get past an area was to make the enemies fight each other as much as possible. (Besides, its fun to watch.) Hostages: How about taking a hostage? Don't the monsters want to live, or are they simply suicidal? You should be able to suprise a creature and have it decide that it has no chance (especially if it is alone.) Maybe the solution to a problem would be to sneak around, pick the leader and drop behind him. This would get you out of a tight situation, and then the baddies would catch up to you later and you'd fight them in more favorable circumstances (i.e., the next level.) This might be hard to do, but its worth a thought. More linkage between levels: Often, in movies, certain story areas will revisit a location or two. I say have the user revisit some places in order to complete a task. Not a really new idea, but I like it. |

I like your ideas. I get kinda tired when I approach the monseters I'm always getting into "brute force" fights. Your World-based tactics and Hostages are good ideas.
Say, aren't you from Rage Underground? I frequent you and when I saw your name it made me wonder, where have I seen this guy before? ![]() ------------------ I seem to have lost my sanity. Everyone is a moron. Some people are better at it than others. |

I want more life-like enemies, and I'm not talking about how they look cause we already know they're gonna look awesome.
I want them to occasionally fall down, I want them to have different reactions. If you shoot them in the back they should fall forward and vice versa. Stuff like that. ------------------ Check out my site! http://www.newdoom.com/rellik/ Home of the EDGE Aliens Resource and Total Conversion. Go on... everybody's doing it... |

Ferrari,
No, but I am the author of that Quake3 Arena map, Andronicus, which has gotten a fair amount of exposure. Perhaps that is where you saw my name. Rellik, I agree with you 100%. That "Slick Oil" thing I mentioned would play into that, with enemies falling down and needing to get up. Big blasts should make them topple also. (How cool would that be?) |
