Well, I agreed with most of the things said on it, and if I disagreed with anything, I forget now. Except that they should stop calling it Doom 3!!! =)
Oh, and it seems that John Romero forgot how the plot of Doom 2 went, lol! Fancy that. He said that the Doom guy met the Icon of Sin on Earth, but according to the texty scrolly thing between levels 20 and 21, it says he plunges through a newly created & opened transdimensional portal thingy that the aliens put in the center of the city, and wound up in Hell on the other side. *shrug* Romero wanted Doom 3 a return to Hell anyway, but I guess he can't have a revisit to Phobos like he wanted. Unless... Now the Doom guy needs to figure out how to get back home! Since he's once again in Hell (assuming the plot continues from the end of Doom 2 and not Final Doom) he should work his way -backwards- to Deimos and then Phobos and then figure a way to fly back to Earth from there. He should take a different route than he did in Doom 2 so he can find the entrance to Hell from Deimos just like in Inferno. And from there a different route back to Deimos Anomaly, transfer himself through the original pair of gates to Phobos. And then perhaps bring back E1M1 with much more realism, and maybe one or two other SW episodes! This would make a good plot while keeping all new levels, allowing all good old monsers and space for new ones and bigger bosses (same with weapons), classic gameplay, all the while incorporating one or two classic familiar levels into a great new world, building on them to make them bigger and more realistic!!! I'd LOVE to see bubbling slime pools, that blue armor vest swaying back and forth out in the courtyard, and making that mysterious patch of wall, invisible on the other side, suddenly buldge back and forward as the Doom guy comes tumbling out of that secret! More realistic falls, too, he'd jump out of that secret and smack his head hard on the ground, a reason to lose a little health. Watching the slime move around like the water in your built-in pool in the backyard. Smack & splash against the corner! Stuff like that. And one last thing, regarding that discussion about the Doom Community's dying out: HAHAHA! Good riddance, friends. All you freaks who think you rule at Doom simply because you can make a map with thirty-some sectors, or incorporate sound effects you made with your mouth into the game. *happily waves goodbye to the evil Doom community* --Zack ------------------ "You wanna see something REALLY scary?" |

Wow . That was one huge interview . Yeah , wtf is with them calling it Doom 3 ? I agreed with about 85% of it . I can't remember what the disagreeable 15% is , because that thing just above it on the home page made me feel awfull . I read it after the interview jobby . Man i can't imagine the pain that dude is going through , with losing his entire Doom project .

Zack, I'm not trying to start an argument here, but I'm curious just how do you define what the "Doom Community" is. I consider all the people who have their sites hosted on this page as part of the Doom community. I consider anyone who has contributed to the legacy of Doom by creating something be it a source port a single player or dm level or a full blown megawad or TC as part of the Doom community. I consider anyone who still plays Doom and appreciates the fun it offers even after all these years as part of the Doom community. Is there a clear dividing line between the people who visit this site and other sites such as Doomworld? If there is, I sure can't see it.

I dunno , but i think Zack has had some bad encounters with people of the Doom community before . He can't help but get acidic towards some certain ********* , because no matter where you go , certain people will always be a$$holios and he had the misfortune of meeting some of them . I don't know the full story & i don't wanna start a war , but i'm sure he has his reasons to dislike certain doomers .
What Stphrz says is true . That everyone from Carmack to the guy who edits Doom , to the dude who plays it and the fella who awaits the New Doom is all part of the Doom community . It is impossible to draw a line in the sand to keep the bad and the good apart and its too bad we all can't , do the Doom thing , talk the Doom talk and just get along with one anouther . ------------------ The only good Vile is a dead Vile . |

stephrz, there are two reasons I dislike the Doom community. Doom_Dude is absolutely right, for one. Let's just say I have had some pretty bad experiences with the Doom community. The second reason is because I think Doom should just let be! You can't tamper with a classic. Adding on to it, editing it, deprives Doom of all it was. Just let it be.
I would in fact be pretty offended, in that case, if I considered New Doom to be directly a part of Doom or related to the Doom Community. But in fact, I am expecting the New Doom to be similar only in plot, and that's it. Forget the enemies in the game: All those people who hated Quake 2, you'd be surprised to look again and notice how similar the Strogg are to the Doom demons. They have basic militia, demonic creatures, biomechanical bosses, and even a healing dude, the Medic, could be a descendant of our beloved Archvile. So any enemies in New Doom that resemble the original Doom's would simply be like any id game, and not like Doom. Anyway my point is that there will be a huge difference between Doom and the new Doom, very few similarities between the two games that still mark them different from other games, and therefore there is a difference as well between what will become the New Doom community, and the Doom community. That's the line. --Zack ------------------ "You wanna see something REALLY scary?" |

"id are cowards for doing another DOOM game. They, if any, have the opportunity to try something new and to push boundaries. Instead they choose to go with DOOM, that they know will be seccuessful even if they don't do a very good job. I think it will be a great game but it could have been more than so. I think we will see another Valve pop up with another groundbreaking game (like half-life was) that pushes the boundaries beyond what we see today. If that prophecy comes true, id are in big trouble with their stagnant ideas. No matter how cool the engine is or how awesome the textures look, it all has to fit together and at the same time introduce something new. Another DOOM game might not do that."
Umm.. cowards? My ass! They have HEAPS of damn pressure now to try and make the new doom as good as the originals.. and that will be a big challenge! If they don't do it right the Doom Community will slaughter id for ruining the DooM name. How does this make them cowards?? hrmmm ------ Finite |
