You know what I really think would make a huge difference in image quality in Doom? (retorical question) I would like to see a legacy specific sprite library using 4X higher resolution sprites. Alpha blending does a lot of good at distances, but not too much for up close eye candy. Sure it would take a lot of work! But I think it would do a lot for the game, and ultimately be worth while.
Just my $.02 |

One more thing. Is it just me or does the sky texture (the one with the mountains) look like crap.
Anyway, keep up the awsome work Legacy dudes! |

I think an interesting concept for Legacy would be VWep support like quake has. I may be totally wrong since I have no porgramming skills, but I don't think it could be that hard to implement. I mean hell look what these guys have already done to Doom. Just an idea

I think hi-res textures/sprites is a good idea. I'd thought of some other ideas that might be easy to add. Native 16-bit graphic support for sprites and etc. instead of 8-bit is probably popular (maybe it's already being used without my knowing).
As for sound, 16-bit & stereo sample support for PWAD's could be an amazing addition. Another idea I think would be unique is music changes. I got the idea from playing Heretic, where there's a song that has a waltzy part then it changes suddenly to a tense-sounding drone. The first time I heard it it freaked me out, I thought I'd stumbled into an ambush Anyway, the music could change by entering a certain part of the map or possibly by reaching a certain percentage of kills, or whatever reason (games like Pac-Man and Street Fighter type games also inspired this idea). It'd also be a cut higher for music utilization in any of the id games released to date. What do think of this? |

Check my post a little ways down, "What's this?". Apparently Legacy's getting a new sky renderer... but nobody's said anything about it yet. Strange. |

The stuff Mr. Magooney said would be awesome additions! Especially the music.
What I'd like to add would be: -MOD/MP3 support. -Many new FraggleScript commands. For everything. -All the FraggleScript stuff to work ("nextlevel ="...) -32-bit color (simply for shading!) -WaveTable synth using Casio WK-1630 sounds included....(ok, I'm getting carried away here). ------------------ Get a life? I'm a gamer! I have lots of lives! - Leader of Team Kill, and an oldschool level maker. |

Ike-
I don't know doodley about this FraggleScript but you mentioned a "nextlevel" var. I'm asking since I'm thinking a "musicchange" var in FraggleScript would make more sense than tweaking out the main sound code in Legacy to handle in-level music changes for touching sectors, kill ratios, annihlation of key bosses, etc. |

I just thought of something else. Being able to join a game already in progress over a TCP-IP network (like the internet), would be heaven for doom game play.
For Example: take Unreal. Their can be an HTML embeded urneal addy like this "unreal://205.42.128.33" (or whatever), I would be able to click on a link that says "legacy-doom://205.42.128.33" and the legacy engine automatically starts up and joins the game(in progress) on the server. Another interesting thing about unreal, is that it's possable to edit the map, and create a portal to another game taking place on another server. Now that would add buckets of fun! I know, doom is not unreal, but adding good features from other games would make doom even better! Do you legacy authors read any of this stuff we post? |

Apart from a few gripes with Legacy, I think the work these guys have done is absolutely amazing.
I felt like a bit of retro Dooming so I fired it up the other day, but after a few minutes of blurry resolutions and antique movement I gave up. Then I found Legacy. nuff said

High Resolution maybe good, but don't forget that some of us don't have realy high-res cards. I can play DOOM Legacy with OpenGL, But I still have the problem I had with MSDOS 2MB Graphic card and 486, the movement was slugish. Mostly is rooms with lots of illumenated sprites, it would slow down quite a bit. On the otherhand, its smoother when I play without, and on a lower res. In the most part you'll still have to compromise for speed. Making Legacy look nice is good, but it will be worth nothing if it makes it lag.

I think the best addition to Legacy would be EAX2 support. I have my computer hooked up to a full 5.1 home theater setup, and UT sounds excellent using EAX. This would make Doom even better.
