Can anyopne provide a list of Quake 1 source ports?
I'd be greatful if you could update my knowledge on this. I'm familiar with the following:
Tenebrae Telejano FUHQuake GLQuake And have tried all but FUHQuake so far (trying that this evening). Tenebrae looks fantastic, but is too damned slow on my system, the framerate is appalling. Telejano runs like the wind, looks nice, but is rather buggy and technical support is extremely hard to get (it won't save my settings - control binds, graphics settings etc., and reverts back to default every time I exit the game). GLQuake is old hat now and is designed for the ancient Glide 3DFX chipset. Does anyone know of any other source ports out there that may be worth trying? |
I can't help you with your list, but I didn't have any problems with Telejano, I still use it today. Maybe you made a mistake somewhere?
|
Well I've tried several things, but the problem seems to be that the config.cfg does not dynamically relate to user chosen settings. I guess that I could attempt to manually edit it or use command line switches?
I'm using the latest release of Telejano, so maybe if I went back to version 7.#, it would resolve this. The other big problem is the fact that it does not seem to support transparent water (water vis patch) properly. I've checked a lot of forums and web support sites for solutions, and all are incomprehensible and appear to involve hacking into the game database with some sort of downloaded tool, and manually running a patch programme on the individual maps, before recompiling once again. I'm not a particularly 'techy' person, and all this sort of stuff gives me a headache lol. I have managed to get the hi-res texture pack to load, and some of the ammo box models, but the new weapon models and enemy skins do not seem to work, and I'm unable to work out any method of getting them into the game. |
Darkplaces.

Hm.. now that you mention it. It's true. Telejano seems to ignore every change I make, once I started it a second time. Not even deleting or manually editing the config worked! And it made a copy of the cfg-file in the texturepack folder... strange... let's see...
OK: If you specify any external data sources (the "-data" command), Telejano always makes a copy of the cfg-file in the last specified data-folder. Obviously Telejano has a bug considering the saving of config files. Damn... |
None of those cool monster models on the Quake Remodilling project have ever been released. Or if they have, where are they? Have there been any improved monster models released for any Quake source port?

It might pay to keep an eye on this

Someone (who's working on this awesome project) just sent me that link to that pic. I don't know anything about it otherwise. |
WinQuake isn't on your list.

All I checked was "who's online" and ioni was viewing this. Plus, who says that his person doesn't still need an answer to their question?
|
I think after four years they just might have gotten their answer.

Where is Pacman when you need him?

Better late than never I suppose.

Not in this case. Read the rules. Resurrecting dead threads is a no no.
|
Tell that to the devs around here. They do it all the time. Same goes for the threads in DD's forum. This one was just stupid, but really, we do drag up olde threads quite often around here.
