Okay, I know you guys probably get alot of these but please don't scorn me...
I really want to play Doom, I have Windows Vista where can I get both Doom 1 and 2 to play or can I not play them at all? Could you please walk me through step by step.

1. Well you need to have the Doom games and you must have their IWADS.
Here's: Doom shareware (http://www.gamers.org/pub/idgames/idstuff/doom/doom19s.zip)
More?
http://www.idsoftware.com/games/doom/doom2/
http://store.steampowered.com/app/2300/
2. Then download a doom source code engine/sourceport. legacy (http://sourceforge.net/projects/doomlegacy/files/), doomsday (http://www.dengine.net/blog/?s=download), zdoom (http://zdoom.org/Download), gzdoom (http://grafzahl.drdteam.org/page.php?page=230), skulltag (http://skulltag.com/download/).
2 1/2. Copy and paste your Doom and or Doom2 IWAD(s) into the sourceport directory.
3. On Vista most likely you'll want to run the executable as admin. ~ by right clicking and then, run as administrator.
4. Everybody else can fill in the blanks. (http://www.doomworld.com/classicdoom/ports/index.php?platform=2) :D

There is also FREEDOOM which Im all am-bare-assed to admit I dont have a link for right now, you will still want one or all of those source ports Mr Rocket linked to. Anyway, welcome to the community and you should be safe from the scorn and insults in these forums, we dont do that sort of thing here.

I just run it in compatibility mode for Windows 95 or 98. You can do this by right clicking on the EXE file go to compatibility, then select "run this program in compatibility mode for..." then find the operating system that the game was designed for and select it. Press OK and then it should work.
I am using Win Vista 32 bit sp1
