2/17/09, nothing happens to American TV stations, thanks to the Dems encouraging lazy people, and Obama signed off on the delay.
The planned transition to all-digital BROADCAST TV is June 12'th, not all that bad a delay.
There IS a plus to this, though. Those DTV stations that don't want to work, I have the old analog counterpart, so it's not all that bad in that respect.
However, that's the MANDATED cuttoff, stations can nix their analog signal when they please, with FCC's approval.
WZMY, 50, Derry, N.H. (My TV), ended analog tramsmission on 12/1/08.
WFXT, 25, Boston (FOX), went low-power, then quit boradcasting around 12/15/08.
Pardon the pun, but I have mixed signal on this delay.....

That's my birfday. I'll be 25! Also, I don't care about broadcast TV, an internet connection is all I need: up-to-date news as it happens, youtube, hulu, etc.
Why live by someone else's schedule?

The switch should have already happened. People have had over a year to raise $40 for something that isn't a necessity. It's stupid to have to go another 4 months of nagging to make the switch to digital television. For people who haven't used it, Digital TV is great! I live out in the middle of nowhere were TV reception sucks. We recently got limited basic cable (like 15 channels of nothing). I get better quality from digital than I do through cable. Hell, most houses I've gone to that have had cable didn't have a high quality picture as this. I love it.
Also, I don't have the ability to watch digital TV in my room as I don't have a converter so I'll be hurt by this change. I want this change to happen soon though. Once it does, most people will already have converters so they'll slowly become dirt cheap (I accidently typed cheese :P). That won't happen until digital tv is here.

Adolf and the others think that lazy people shouldn't be left out, for ignoring the switch.
The original drop-dead date was 12/31/06, but that was pushed back to 2/17/09, because people AND stations were far from ready.
My reception varies. Some stations are EXCELLECT (ABC, CBS, and NBC) scores an 82% on my bedroom HDTV, The CW was about 50%, FOX is a joke, at 28%, but something weird happens once in awhile, where my bedroom reception goes to hell. I lost the CW, a former UPN (now inie) station, yet a wimpy shopping channel gets an 82. Weird. Best ones are, of course, Spanish (must be a law in Massachusetts that a Spanish station must come in very clear/strong), and those range from 88 to 94%.
The MyTV station is tough, and only works off the roof antenna (TV in Living Area). The analog station almost as strong as analog cable in quality, but the digital one barely works at all. I literally lose it for a moment simply by turing on/off a light. I bought a converter box for a projector, and tried it, and it works better than the HDTV receiver.
As for the FOX station, a more powerful signal should be up by July. Sucks that I can't watch a NASCAR race without it dropping out constantly. The analog station was super-strong, so this weak digital station is no excuse.
I hope these stations bump up their power a bit. Some are unjustifyably weak, yet some are stronger than their analog counterparts.
Got to love digital, especially on windy days with a simple set of bunny-ears.

That's why Bethesda makes immersive games: so we can pretend REoL isn't real. ;)
People who don't spend the time between NASCAR worrying about space Nazis know the government was more worried about shortages of coupons and converter boxes than lazy people.

I got digital tv on my pc, it's a hell of a lot better than analogue, only problem is New Zealand is using more advanced dvt-b stuff, that the software to decode it with is not ready yet (x264 decoding problems)

How do you have that working out, KuriKai? Do you just have a TV Tuner card or something?
We have Satellite, so I wonder if I would even be able to do that... Probably a lot of hackish stuff to decode the signal.

NASCAR is the country's (United States) biggest spectator sport. If you live in a metropolitan area, you wouldn't know it (like here in the Boston region), leave the NFL regions, and it changes a lot.

Get over it already, Our whole Government has been fucked up longer than Obama has been alive.... get cable or a satellite and don't friggen worry about it. Let them be your media Nazis.
