Hi, I'm trying to host a game on a Windows OS, and a friend is attempting to join using a Mac.

We've tried using 1.8.6, but it says there's a version difference and disconnects my friend. (Are using the exact same WAD versions, but he's using the Mac version of Doomsday, and I the Windows).

Tried 1.9.0 beta 4 & 5, both have strange problems, like the connecting client unable to see any moving monsters, but able to move about. And being unable to move at all or see any updates. (Ports are opened and forwarded from the router, both UDP and TCP, firewalls disabled)

I was just wondering whether there's a known version to be effective for multiplayer games in this situation? This is for Doom and Hexen.

Thanks.

beta 5 and 5.1 as far as i know. and even then they're buggy as anything but that's the best you're gonna get.

The situation with multiplayer currently is that its unusable, particularly jHeretic and jHexen. jDoom can be quite playable with 1.9.0-beta5.1 but there remains quite a few issues.

These problems will be addressed in a future 1.9.0 beta as the netcode is due a big overhaul but for now I would suggest you simply use another engine for net play (Chocolate DOOM would be a good choice).
