I just purchased a DVD and to my dismay there was a sticker for a Quiznos offer on the case. Now if I take it off there will undoubtably be some sort of sticky residue on the case which will collect dust and other airborn particles and make it look like crap. Now there is no reason that the sticker couldn't have been placed on the outside plastic wrapping of the DVD.

Also this is one of those DVD's with the case and an outer case that slides down over it. to me these serve no purpose but they're a nice addition. Now this was over the DVD of course with the plastic shrink wrap stuff over that. That means the inner DVD case should not have security stickers, because they would not be necessary because of the out side wrap. Just an extra aggrivation to open a DVD.

And that's the end of my rant on the overpackaging of most DVD/CD products, I think I'm going to stick with Netflix from now on *smirk*

Overpackaging sucks and stickes like you mentioned should be in hell. If the sticker is on plastic you can use a commercial product that is made for the removal of sticker residue. The stuff I have is called Tape Off, which is a liquid and it works very well. I recently had a sticker on the back of a CD jewel case that left a sticky square spot and I used my Tape Off to nuke the residue. I've also used it on DVD cases to remove glue from the clear plastic sleeve area.

Yeah that stuff sounds good but the sticker is on the outer case "thingy" which is made of some sort of cardboard/shiny over picture coating. So i'm pretty sure any type of chemical would wreck it :( .

Try a little squirt of WD40 on a cloth and gently rub the affected area, it should not cause any harm to the sleeve.

Heh, too much packaging. Like older PC games, all that air inside that giant box.

Holy crapola! I could never find any household products (although I am lazy) that would remove the residue from me jewel cases. I should get some of that.
As for getting it off the cover thing, like Doom Dork said, use a cloth gently and it shouldn't cause any damage.

And why the FUCK is there a Quizno's offer ON THE CASE? I can understand a commercial or two in the DVD (although that's still a bad thing), but who the HELL would ruin a case with an ad for a FAST-FOOD RESTAURANT? Ugh. If you're going to slide some ad that will probably not actually make the consumer purchase the product into a DVD, do it into that place with the booklet. At least then it doesn't ruin the box.
