Nope I haven't seen this. However, I strolled onto IMDB.com (awesome movie resources website) and apparently, it is now the number 1 movie based on number of votes and ratings, beating 'the godfather'. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/
I do hope people aren't sympathising him and saying he performed really well because he died, but from what I hear, he did exceptionally well. Might see it sooner or later.

I saw this movie tonight, and it is probably one of (if not) the best movies I've ever seen in my entire life. Not only was The Joker amazing, but each and every character was absolutely superb, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next film.
Link to top 250 movies of all time based on user-submitted votes:
The Dark Knight in at #1 with 23,611 counted votes (only votes from regular voters are considered). 9.5 out of 10 average from 23,611 voters? GO SEE THIS MOVIE.
Also, it's broken two records already: http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/the-dark-knight-box-office-60-million-down-two-days-left.php
I can't wait to see the opening weekend numbers.

Its true this movie is pretty much incredible. I have to admit I don't think Christian Bale plays a very good Batman though, he feels a little out of place. You could also argue the movie relied too heavily on Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker, but then the whole point of this movie was to emphasize on just how insane yet clever the character is.
Its a must see movie anyway. Not as good as some of the older Batman movies, but still better than everything else that has come out recently.

Incredible, emotionally exhausting, and does an excellent job of balancing multiple themes without feeling like it's trying too hard to please everyone. It was scary, funny, intense, extremely uncomfortable (in a good way) in some spots, and the Joker was the best effing villain I've ever seen in anything, ever. Period.

I am persuaded enough to watch it in cinemas. Gonna watch it in a week. I don't like watching in cinemas much now, I prefer the subtitled nature of DVDs.
IMO, Christian Bale's version of Bruce Wayne/Batman is probably, more believable and humane, I really liked Batman Begins.
So, how/why Heath Ledger's performance of the joker made it really good? I guess I better see it for myself...

* * * * POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT! IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET, DON'T READ! * * * *
So, how/why Heath Ledger's performance of the joker made it really good? I guess I better see it for myself...I liked the specific physical things he did, like his facial gestures, licking his lips, his vocal choices, etc. Consistent throughout. This wasn't The Joker of any of the comics. It was a real, but sick and twisted person who reveled in bringing about utter chaos and anarchy. But not done in any over-the-top or campy way. A truthful, physical representation of sheer madness and evil intelligence.
On the other hand, the thing with the pencil in the beginning looked cool, but wasn't probable; and I didn't like the yin/yang speech scene at the end. Seemed tacked on to try to wrap everything up neatly. Other plot points, story elements and sloppy editing detracted overall for me.
But The Dark Knight was still great because of Heath Ledger's performance. I could have enjoyed the whole 2 1/2 hrs. of just The Joker. By far, he was the most interesting thing. Not because hey, Heath Ledger's dead, so let's go see it and hype it because of that. Go see it because his performance WAS so great; and bittersweet, because The Joker's DONE...
No matter who takes the reins, although they would be commended for being brave enough to try, but Heath Ledger's was so definitive, specific and dreadfully affective, any other performance can only seem campy in comparison.

What you said Phoebus, I agree with you totally. I could feel his intents just from watching his characteristic and behaviour, I couldn't understand what he said though, I need the subtitles. Not many characters like him wanted to make me become a bad guy :o
EDIT: I've just realised that the pencil thing was a magic trick... gee wouldn't it have broke in the first place? That poor guy :o
I don't think it is the best movie of all though, it's all the hype thats pushing up the ratings.
