I have the Collector's Edition of Doom and I'm having problems with the Pharaoh Level. I know about the "yellow key" bug in this level, but I can't seem to get the "fix" to work. I downloaded the "fix" from TeamTNT, but it does nothing. When I start-up Doom, the "Doom for Windows 95 Launcher" window comes up. The "Game Parameters"/Game WAD file" pull-down tab has 3 choices. "None","Plutonia", or "TNT". The other pull-down tab called "Custom WAD file" also has 3 choices. "None", "TNT_YK", and "TNT31". I have tried just about every combination of these, and I still can't get the yellow key. Can anyone walk me through, step by step, how to correctly apply this patch and fix my problem? I know this "fix" works for other people, I'm just not doing something right. Also, when the patch is working, does anyone know where the "yellow key" appears in the level, or is it already in the player's inventory? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and take care.*cool*

Read this page (http://classicdoom.com/pctnt31p.htm) for some more info about the patch; Check this mini-map of Pharaoh (http://classicdoom.com/maps/tntkeys/tnt31.htm) to see where the key should appear.
The key bug can be fixed in your original WAD file by changing a single byte, thus doing away with patch WADs, etc. You might want to check out the Doom WAD Patcher (http://doomgate.de/files/ladopato/index_en.html), which can make that fix for you (read the docs and play around with it).

You dont need an extra wad. There is a way to skip the yellow key and its bug, but you miss alot of the map.
Jump (straferun) off top of stairs and land on big chair on right side. Theres a switch in there. Just keep pressing use walking on top of chair.

The intended way to use the patch is to load tnt.wad as the iwad ("game WAD file") and - in addition - tnt31.wad as the pwad ("custom WAD file").
I'd recommend against ever altering an iwad for any reason, and if you really feel you must do so, then keep a back-up as well as the original disk.
Even if you do succesfully make the 1-byte change that Ledmeister refers to, note that if you want to watch any demos that were recorded with the patch wad (these will include all single-player Max and 100% secrets demos), then you will need to load the patch wad too. This is because it fixed some node problems as well as the yellow key issue.

Yes, what Grazza said. Never modify your only copy of an IWAD, always have at least a backup or two of the unadulterated original.

The key exists, but has the multiplayer-only flag set. Therefore, you can also try and play a multiplayer coop game by yourself (this may not be applicable depending on what you use for Doom) though it will be slightly different gameplay-wise.
BTW, how can a change in the NODES resource screw up demos? Or does it have other fixes?

BTW, how can a change in the NODES resource screw up demos? Or does it have other fixes?A node rebuild will cause almost any demo to desync. Many aspects of the game behaviour depend on the node info, and a slight change in one value will have knock-on effects that will cause desyncs.

That's how I fixed mine. I just opened it in my wad editor, changed the flag off multiplayer, and saved. Voala. My original is on the CD it came on and I didn't really care about demos. How would that affect multiplayer though? (Never tried it after the fix.)

Wouldn't work in multiplayer on that map, thats all - or the whole wad maybe, I'm not too sure how multiplayer is handled anymore..
