What you need to do is create and work with an external wad file called a PWAD. DO NOT modify the original DooM wads (e.g., doom.exe, doom2.exe), which are known as IWADs. Here are the steps:
1. Open XWE and from the File menu select New. [If you already have a wad with which you are working you can open that file.]
2. From the Entry menu select Load. An Open dialog box will pop up.
3. Browse your computer and select the music file that you want to insert. To simplify things, make sure that your music is named as one of the original DooM/2 music files and is in MUS format.
4. Use the Open dialog box to insert your music file into your wad. Repeat as necessary.
5. You're all done.

OR if you really dont want to mess with the WAD files, I know I wouldnt 9.9. There is an easy way. Well it'll be easy for you cuz I had to do all the work. First you need Jdoom, then you need to have a special text file written that'll tell the game which music to play in what level and where the actual music file is stored on the PC. Obviously if you tell it the songs in one folder then later you move the song it wont work, so I recommend you put the songs in a folder in the Jdoom directory not somewhere in your documents or something.
I'll explain everything but only if I get a response from you, I will wait.

If you have doom builder for example or another doom level builder you can open the map that you want to change the music. then you change de level lump name adn boila! another music in the level.

Doom Builder cannot edit things that way. Maybe in the new version thats being made, but not in the current version.

Doom Builder cannot edit music lumps.
well actually it can
if you go to edit/map options and in the box you change the level lump name the music changes. of course the sky can change to. depending of the lump.

There is a converter for mus files. It was called midi2mus or something like that. I forgot where I found it back in the day. There's also one that came with Wintext, called mus2midi that did the reverse.

Yeah it's MIDI2MUS and MUS2MIDI and they both come with Wintex. But, MIDI is an aging format and a better idea would be to use a source port that allows MP3 and others to be used instead.

Um, that is just changing the slot the level will be loaded on. That isn't editing anything music related. What if you wanted to use an original .mus lump? Your method wouldn't work then. You use XWE for changing music lumps anyway.

you're right I forgot that if you change the lump name of the level not only the music changes, the slot level will be loaded in an other form, you'll have to re-order the whole wad file to make the levels loaded correctly.

He talked about the wrong thing, thus implying he had the wrong intention, in another thread.

If I remember correctly, the idgames archives have restrictions on wads with mp3 files. Of course, this should not be the sole reason to avoid mp3 in a wad, but it is something to consider if a mapper intends to have a wide distribution of his/her work.

Yup, but that ONLY applies to copyrighted media, unless you have permission from the owner.
