Its an old-school styled shooter. You don't really do much in Doom3 other than run into every room and shoot anything that moves.

I vote run and gun because you basically just shoot whatever moves and GTFO. *bliss*
What tactics? You see a box of shells so you use the shotgun, the come back for shells thus conserving on other ammo. Is that even tactics... :p
As for shitting pants, I didn't find Doom 3 that scary. It had some creepy moments but overall it wasn't that scary.

Yeah some buddies of mine that played doom 3 say it's really scary. but when I played and realized that the monsters did very little damage, an imp that would leap onto me would give me a "Wtf? Gay. that was a cheap shot."

Run and gun for sure. The game had a few good moments, mostly in the first few levels, but I found that it got pretty boring later on. I found PSX Doom to be a little scary and quite tense at moments and we're just talking about a port of the original game with a new sound score thrown in. Running around the marshes level not realising I could turn the lights on, with a Cyberdemon closing in and shooting at me from behind. That was creepy but then I was only 11 at the time as well.
Doom 3 wasn't and I kind of felt let-down at the end when I took a shot in the face from the Cyberdemon and survived, on veteran difficulty, only to keep running around in circles shooting imps and stuff to power up the soul cube. So all that running around the dark corridors to get to the inevitable showdown and I get stuck running around in a circle until the boss is dead. They should have made the final arena a big '8' instead of a circle. :p
I'm not complaining though. Now I have another game to flog when the time comes for me to sell up and leave the country. :D

HAHA yea the Cyb was a huge disapointment..... Its roar is crap..my brother is scaryer than that thing

I was hoping to have a Cyb tear apart a building to rocket your ass into oblivion. Imagine that thing busting down the walls, coming for you... you pump rockets n shells into it and it keeps coming. You go into another room and it tears through the fucking wall, busted pipes spewing steam that would kill you instantly from the heat but it just walks through all pissed off and shit. Oh well..... that's not gonna happen.

Well I heard someone did make the Cyberdemon a normal monster that you could fight and kill with standard weaponry like it's more pixelated cousin. You just needed to have a level big enough to fit it in. :p
I remember someone made a Shambler for the game too and put it in a level they made. I almost crapped myself when I saw it walking by in a corridor. But this was another half-arsed conversion, it barely did any any damage with it's lightning attack and was easy to avoid close encounters with.

I ment the OMG A CYB JUST BURST THROUGH THAT WALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just a side note: I bet if we were dedicated enough we could make a mod like that

It's a simple run and gun sci-fi horror. It's not that hard to figure out. *bliss*

Off-Topic: I was playing today with the Super Flashlight mod and blew up the floor (ROFLMAO) and discovered, the Cyb doesnt run on the ground. Although everything else fell, the cyb kept walking in his circlular path, patheticly shooting rockets at me. Oh whoops I ment patheticly missing.

The polls allow 20 options and you give us four, one of which is "all of the above?" That's like those retarded questions politicians ask!
Answer is A anyway. Only there was more creeping and not much running. I dunno who balanced the game but that aspect of it sucked. It was just tedious to play, even though it was damn pretty.

I think there was only one part of Doom 3 that really really creeped me out, and now I don't even know why it did. That part where the skeleton in the vent slides to the left and you hear that wierd laugh.

Haha i remember the part where you hear a deep-pitched laugh at the start of one level, and then a file cabinet falls over and a dead guy flies out of the vent behind it. It was so lame; My brother and I were cracking so many jokes about that.
"That was annoyting.. Why did that happen? Who's gonna clean that up?"

I think Doom, Doom 2, and Quake have all given me a lot more scares than Doom 3.
But, the scene where the woman in the office falls apart and the lost soul flies out of her head had some potential. It could have been disturbing with some more creativity.

That office was creepy without all the hellspawn. Most women I know wouldn't want to work there. Two of them would prefer it though. :D

I found it to be more run-and-gun. I, too, was kind of disappointed with Doom 3, but of the 2004 first person shooter releases, I felt like it was the one that promised what it delivered, and that was run-and-gun action. It played like classic Doom, I felt, but with reloads and purdier graphics.
Some parts were scary, I'll admit, but classic Doom still makes me jump out of my seat more than Doom 3 did. I didn't see anything tactical about Doom 3, and I'm glad, really. Tactical stuff, I feel like, isn't fitting for Doom. Doom's always been mindless shoot, and to make such a change from that to tactical shooting...I'd be uneasy to try it.

I remember when Doom 3 came out I was irritated that Half-life 2 won G4's "best shooter of 2004" award, and now I can understand why. I've since learned to appreciate Valve a bit more.
The problem with Id's latest shooters is that they're all cookie cutter titles with nothing to set them apart from the hundreds of other sci-fi shooters. Id invented the style of play that we now call generic, so I can understand that it's what they'd be used to, although I'm sure selling the engine is all they worry about now.

I would have given Half-Life 2 my fav of 2004. I thought it was a great, well-done game. However, what kept me from enjoying it was Steam. I know now that, at the time, there were still some things that needed to be tested and worked out, but having to go through Steam to play a game I bought with my own money was still ridiculous.
I could rant more about why I hate Steam, but that's for another topic at another time. That and a search on Doomworld's forums for Enjay's rants about Steam also sum up my own feelings about Steam.

It's run and gun, but not good enough. The original doom is king and owns everything! Doom 3 didn't really scare me either.
You know what totally scares the crap out of me? Nightmare Before Christmas. Woooo.... I can't even think about it....
