Hi there,

My time is limited but i quickly write this down.

I stumbled on this page some time ago.
Iam wondering which version of doom re-creation project this is.

But look at this*eek*

http://iddqd.ru/textures.php?page=1&patc=all&tex=HELL5_1

Was this a genius work, or is this the true original texture Id software used in a very lower resolution version back in 1993 ???

too bad everything is in russian language. So idont understand a word

Edit: (Most textures look like JDTP textures)

Well to answer your question, they are labeled and starting from the top it's the original, the second and forth ones are from JDTP, the third one is from Risen 3-D and the fifth one is from Doom Remake. To help you out besides the first one, the are all remakes.

Yes thats clear...

But look at this

masterpiece. looks like airbrush or someting. Now dont tell me jDani made it. I simply wont believe it
It perfectly represents every fuc*ing detail of the original in full glory

besides that. What is 20070908 version ??
I never seen most of the textures.
Are they updated one's of JDTP ?
Did the JDTP got updates ?
Where can i follow that process ? Because i'am a big and old fan of doom and i should have noticed any update about doom.
(so it looks more like a different project, but usind JDTP as base)

I always figured this texture in Doom was inspired by the cover of Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness album http://www.truemetal.org/metalwallpaper/images/altarsofmadness.jpg

I'm sorry to tell you dude but I did make it, its not the original ID artwork. I have the PSD original on a backup CD also. You are correct in that it was produced using 100% airbrush (digital airbrush in Photoshop that is ;)).

I'm glad you like it though.

For what its worth, thats not even the finished version. That particular one came from the hires patches addon I released as part of the jDRP 1.1 Alpha. The final version looks a lot better IMO as it is more refined and some of the lighting issues have been fixed.

Personally, I'd love to have the time to give the rest of the DOOM art resources a similar treatment but between real life and my coding work on Doomsday, I'm left with little opportunity.
I always figured this texture in Doom was inspired by the cover of Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness albumI'd say that is very likely given that Romero and the guys were big metalheads back then.

Weird... *I* always figured it was inspired by the "Alien" series of films. I know that parts of the game were designed to mimic elements of those films. (crappy reference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Making_of_Doom))

Aliens TC was inspired by that texture. Notice the recolors.

And what was, in turn, inspired by Aliens TC?

That is a freaking awesome texture DaniJ. ;)
People that can actually draw out what can look like a bloom effect aren't easy to come by either heh.
When you draw things like this do you use a grid and draw out parts of it at a time? or just look at and redraw? or simply blow it up and recreate it with a new detail aspect?

Thanks guys :)

With stuff like that which is a recreation of an existing piece I generally start out taking a load of measurements and rough out the basic light/shadow forms first. After that I just paint freeform with the original alongside for reference.
