Unfortunately, it is for the X-Box. Seems like a solid translation, though. I'm about 3 hours in right now. Anyway, while I'm not blown away in amazement, I am happy to see the DooM franchise wasn't mutilated by father time (and father cash-in). So far, all I can say negatively is that it borrows WAY too heavily from Half-Life. Thoughts?

The hell maps were awsome and freaked me out, but sadly there were more things about the game I disliked than there were things the game had that I liked.

Its just an game you play once and never again at least for me it was.

I definitely agree that this game (especially the beginning) is way too similar to Half Life 1. It would have been way better if they made it more true to the original doom storyline, or at least more like the one that Tom Hall wrote in the doom bible.

The game is extremely atmospheric though and many good mods for the PC version. And yes the hell maps were ridiculous.

Doom 3 is a fun game and I really enjoyed it. There are things I would change like the whole air tank idea. Some of the best parts are in Hell like Dutch said.

I thought the Hell maps were wicked, and the atmosphere was scary as hell. However, the replay value is rather low.

It was a tedious game to play. I could never do more than an hour or two at once. It was quite pretty though, if somewhat repetitive in looks.

i also thought it felt tedious. perfect word to describe it really. it lost its spookiness fast, and was overall too easy. it just didn't have the sense of desperation that the original dooms gave me. but it was pretty. the hell level was certainly the highlight, but it was over so fast that it ended up being a downer. in my opinion, the game should have had much more hellish levels and large explorable and non-linear areas.

So what does everybody think about the online part I've been playing it for and bit imo it sucked badly.

Multiplayer was only fun with friends all in the same room xD. When me an dmy friends have LAN parties (usually with Xbox's), we play Doom 3. It so much fun to crouch down in a dark corner, wait until someone runs past and punch them, take their gun, and blastthem to hell with ti xD

Also, the xbox version of Doom 3 has shortened levels and a lot of stuff has been cut out :(. But it does have Coop so wheeee

Is that a problem? That's exactly what the game needed.

Doom 3 to me is a great game. If I stop and think about it, I can point various problems with it... but honestly: I've beaten it three times already as of now.

Any game in my collection that can put me to play through it more than once or twice is a great game. Specially because my collection is pretty HUGE.

But I DO think it would benefit enourmously from using more of the original Doom plot. There's enough room in that old idea to make a great game with a great story.

I played through about an hour or so, and got kinda bored with the whole "flashlight or gun" gameplay mechanic.

I wasn't too botherred with the falshlight then gun gameplay. It wasn't similar to doom but it didnt bother me. What bothered me was how badly the flashlight was at lighting rooms up. Wouldn't a flashlight be more effective in darker rooms? The darkness almost overpowers the flashlight. If I could, I'd post some screenshots where I was right up against a wall with a flash light, and the wall was solid black.

What bothered me the most was how difficult it was to avoid the monsters attacks was compensated by them not doing a lot of damage. I was annoyed that I was practically unable to dodge some fireballs or shotgun shots, though they didn't take a toll on my health. In turn, making the evil diabolical appearance of the monsters less threatening. Unlike in regular doom, the incoming monster attack was generally easy to avoid, but playing lazily or stupidly would make the monsters fatal. The Doom 2 Archvile will always be tattooed in my brain as one of the scariest monsters for this reason

I also kinda wish the doom 3 guy ran faster too.

No, it was too short. I want a game I can't finish if only a few hours. I want a game that will take me a while to get through. Also, a lot of the really neat parts (like going out side) was taken out. PC version was much better.

There are lots of mods in doom 3 that can change the problems you guys speak of, but still, as far as levels and design there are things they could have done better. ROE was kind of a letdown too. It was short, and just added two guns. And one of them should have been in doom 3 to begin with (double shotgun).

It would have been better if the game was less repetitive, and more epic, and had more replay value. Johnny brings up another good point though. It is sometimes easy in doom 3 to play lazily. You don't have as much mobility, but the monsters seem less dynamic and weaker than the original doom.

But like DaniJ says, "if you don't like it, mod it!" :)

I liked Doom 3 and all, it was really fun and refreshingly long, but I get the feeling that now Id games are just tools to show off their engines (which they want to sell) instead of actual games.

That seems to be true. Doom3 was quite a technology demonstration. Quake 4 and Doom 3 I liked pretty much alike. Quake is more sci fi ish though.

Not entirely true. Look at Orcs and Elves. That was just released not too long ago and that looks worse than Doom does :P. Addictive game though :P.

I hope Rage doesn't turn into a game showing what they can do visually. I also hope it comes out on Xbox 360 so I might have a chance at playing it :P.

Orcs and Elves seems to me to have been a side project that they did just for the nostalgia. I heard it was good though.

It's like Carmack is the engine, and Romero is the game. You can't have one without the other.

Blah, i feel jipped. I knew it wasn't going to have all the bells and whistles, but shortened/omitted levels? I'm sad that the X-box is closest I can get to the original vision for some time.

I've still not played this, not got a machine which is able to handle it, buying a house meant cutting back on the computer upgrades *crazy*
