What do you think? Should consenting and willing adults be allowed to hold romantic relationships with more than one [consenting and willing] partner?

I vote yes, because I'm in favor of letting people do whatever the hell they want-- as long as there is consent. Just because I don't understand polyamorous relationships doesn't mean I can judge others who have them.

Indeed. A polygamous relationship is perfectly fine as long as no one is forced into it. I'm all for it.

Some of the super-Mormons don't think they're being forced.... because they're stupid.

You can have consenting romantic relationships anyway. Just can't get married. Last I checked adultery wasn't a crime around here (America may still be more barbaric in places).

The Mormons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints) don't condone polygamy anymore (Reference) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed_Smoot_hearings). It's the crazy offshoots like the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamentalist_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter_Da y_Saints) that give us all a bad name.

As for Adultery:

Looks like the laws vary from state to state here in the US.

I was just bringing up the subject because a friend of mine was trying to explain to me how it's not "right" and it's "weird" and romance should only be between two people. >.>

No way I'm letting her be one of my wives now! :)

Most people like to cite some breed of bird as some kind of "proof" that love should be purely between one man and one woman, mating for life, with no exception. The reality being that most animals that travel in packs have one dominant male that mates with all the females, and most that don't travel in packs pretty much mate once and never see each other again.

There is absolutely nothing wrong or weird with polyamourous or polygamous relationships. I personally have little desire to be with more than one woman, but I can't think of any reason why it would be a bad thing. People are too tied up in their fundamental horseshit that they don't see the reality of love--it comes in all shapes and sizes; male and female, male and male, female and female, and any polyamourous mix of each.

Those of religious standings that condemn any of these types of relationships are also probably quick to claim that God Is Love. Hypocrisy at its finest.

There's a reason I said super-Mormons. Regular Mormons seem to have views like most other churches might.

Yes Pieter there was a thread about this before. Not sure where it's at tho.

Personally I would never want to be in a relationship that included more than one other person. That has the potential to be a nightmare. :p However, if some other people wanted to do that, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. Sometimes society is really messed up, no thanks to people who are as open minded as a dead gnat. If it's something that somebody wants to do and it isn't harmful to themselves and others or the environment then why is there a problem? Ummm hello, it's none of your business what others do with their lives. If Joe Bloe and Jane X want to marry somebody else, then I say go for it. It doesn't hurt me and if they're happy, then who has the right to say they shouldn't do it? It's about time we let people be free to do what they want without all the dumb labels and unnecessary bullshit. *rant*

As long as nobody wants to marry their pet. *krezy*

Just my 2 cents. :p

Obviously some people can not understand a joke when they read one. If you can't figure out that I am making one, either you have never heard of Monopoly, or you simply aren't very smart.

Personally though, I don't think others should have multiple wives until I at least have one.

Simple answer for people who can't figure out simple things themselves:

Polygamy sounds similar to Monopoly. It is a pun.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pun

To further clarify for any idiots, Monopoly has a card in the chance pile that says "Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.00." I simply quoted that card, because it is the most well known in card in Monopoly, and therefore the most recognizable.

If you want to be a total dick, because I made a quick joke for the amusement of myself and anyone else reading this thread, then maybe you should consider getting some form of counseling, and perhaps some medication. If you are already on medication, then maybe you should look into upping your dosage, or getting something stronger.

As for polygamy itself, I have not a wife, and no kids. Until this situation is resolved, I have no sympathy for horny bastards who think they deserve five or six.

To Boingo.

This forum doesn't have enough good jokes, and when people don't get them, they become dicks about it. I learned it the hard way myself. Simply having an ironic attitude can be a one-way ticket to flame war. And everyone dies.

But back on track, I dont want to participate in polygamy, though if people want to do it, then so be it. I guess it just depends on what ladies think it's okay that their husband likes more ladies than just her.

Nomad
October 28th, 2007, 06:15 PM
A note to the unaware, Polygamy does not mean a man having more than one wife. The word polygamy covers all polyamourous relationships. Polyandry is a woman with more than one husband, and polygyny is where a man has more than one wife.

Marriage to bots wouldn't even be considered possible for a while, even with the existence of plausible Winona-bots. The net result would be us being married and owning the bots to do whatever the hell we wanted with, which depending on the bots, might just be entirely like being married to them.

And no, I could never figure out what to do with more than one woman in most situations. :p

It's easy, you just label them by duty and switch them around every so often.
So you'd have a Cleaning lady, an Entertainment lady, a Cooking lady and whatnot.
Heck, you could even have your own TV-Remote lady, provided you agree that she zaps when you tell her to and that she doesn't watch sleezy women's shows instead.
