Has this ever been attempted without a beserk pack?Do you think I have a chance? No cheats,no nothing.Just me,a cyber, and my fists....How many hits will it take to kill it?Without a beserk pack? What's harder than that? Please don't say something stupid like "2 cyberdemons"..

Edit:I just realized my title says "fist to fist"....Lol.

I've never watched it, but I think there are demoes of "tyson" speedruns, in which the player would have to beat the game only using fists. And E2M8 wouldn't be possible if someone hadnt done it. So I guess there are people who have.

I never have. I dont have the patience. I've never killed anything harder than a demon with only fists. However that doesn't include times where I damaged monsters much with an SSG, and finished em off with a few punches.

Good question though. I don't plan on doing it though.

I'd say if there are no other weapons.. adding a few beserks and maybe a few blue armors would help such game play. ~ at least if you plan to do it without dieing. :D

He probably means "HAHAHA TEH BERSARK PAK LASTS UNTIL END OF LEVEL! STOOPID PROGRAMERS!" Some people apparently think that it is a glitch.

Also,

What's harder than that?

2 cyberdemons.

...Also, he's banned, so I doubt this thread will receive much more replies.

Actually, the Berserk pack is accidently listed as a timed power up in the manuals of newer releases of Doom (i.e the Collectors Edition, Doom on Steam, basically any release that has a PDF file instead of a paper manual).

The fact that the red tint doesn't last the whole level could probably make some people unfamilair with Doom believe this manual error.

Here's a link to Steam's Doom 2 Manual to back myself up:

When I first played DooM I too believed that the berserk power-up only lasted for the 30 seconds during which the screen was red.

Has this ever been attempted without a beserk pack?
Check out the Tyson run of E2M8 (ftp://competn.doom2.net:8002/pub/compet-n/doom/tyson/t2m82810.zip).

There is no difference between "using a berserk pack or not" except the time it takes. Seriously, if you can do it with the berserk pack, you can do it without it, it would just take much more time and the same amount of luck again and again until he dies.

Pretty much no point to do it with no berserk pack.

That's like saying there's no difference between fighting a boss at close range with just a pistol vs. with a DB shotgun. Because of the increased power of your weapon you do greater damage, and it takes far less time to kill the boss (which you've pointed out). Because it takes less time, the player reduces his/her probability of making a mistake or getting unlucky (the probability of getting unlucky increases with time, so your statement that the player will need the same amount of luck is not accurate). This in turn makes it easier to kill off a boss.

Luck undoubtedly plays a role in boss battles, but skill is also very important. Hence, just because a player can kill a boss at close range with a powerful weapon, it does not automatically follow that the s/he will be successful with a significantly less powerful one. In other words, going toe-to-toe with a cyberdemon with just a fist will be considerably more difficult than with a berserk power-up.

No one mentioned, a big difference with the Berserk is that it will always give you 100% health, used or not.
Heh you slap one in a DM level, and you'l want to fight to your death over it. :P
If used properly, it is an important item/powerup.
