I would like to edit for heretic, however, the game will not run in windows. Various threads have suggested this new jheretic, which looks promising is windows compatible. It was not clear as to what specific programs were required to run it, such as some program called snowberry. Could sum1 plz explain what jheretic is and what other software is needed to run it. On that note, it would be even better if sum1 could tell me what editors would be most appropriate to edit heretic, or jheretic. Editing is not new to me, I edit and create levels, monsters, ai, sprites, ambient sounds, and music for this type of game.

For modding I'd suggest you to prefer the zDoom port. It has powerful scripting language ACS/DECORATE

I always want to edit for heretic because I'd love to play more heretic megawads. But i always get bored of it because the game doesnt let you switch to different themes. Your stuck making maps based on the same theme over and over and over again. It's like making an entire doom megawad with only brown brick textures.

Thanks for the feedback, it sounds likethe editors used for doom are also used fro heretic. Doombuilder is without question the best level editor to use for this type of game, for scripting tho, would decorate still be the most efficient program? considering what jedi said, it seems that zdoom is the best tool for modding, and seems to be the only port that can be used for decorate, which is very familiar to me. In that scenario, if i wanted to mod something using the zdoom port, could you play that same mod using gzdoom, jdoom, or doomsday? Someone mentioned that they wanted to edit for heretic but got bored of it because they could not change the "theme". In theory, wouldn't it be possible to load textures from other games, or from heretic, and use them as additional textures? Same thing with sprites, do not simply use the ones which are already there, create custom ones and write separate scripts for them. Could sum1 provide a link to heretic and the shadow of the serpent riders episodes? The shareware version of heretic does not work on my system as it was orginally designed to run in ms dos, perhaps the updated version of the game would help.

Sorry, my mistake :)
Let's put zDoomGL in the list instead :)

jDoom IS Doomsday. "Doomsday engine"is a general name for an engine that supports jDoom, jHeretic, jHexen....
....Depending on the features you use I guess. all ports based on zDoom (Skulltag, GZdoom, zDoomGL...) support it's features (at least to the last zDoom version they were based off) yet I guess every port based on zdoom has his own port-specific features that might not work on zdoom. So some of the latest zdoom features might not work on other zDoom-based ports, and ceirtanly won't work on non-zdoom based ports like Doomsday - thought the basic zDoom features will work on all zDoom-based ports.
For more details try zDoom, GZdoom or Skulltag forums.

zDoom can do virtually anything, including this.

EdgeGL rocks, I think they should un-cap it's framerate even if it doesn't currently support Heretic. ;)

Order noted, would you like smooth interpolation with that? :)
(Joking aside, interpolation is the hard part of uncapped framerate, e.g. running at 70fps is rather pointless if every 2nd frame is the same as the first).

Well I guess it just all depends if you guys are running a special. :D
If so, then eXtra interpolation and hold teh onions.
