Good work mate!.

I found some minutes to snatch into the forums and take a look into this work. Please, don't stop working on this and keep the flame alive :).

I also take the chance to say hello to people and stuff. I'm sorry that I'm not able to spend my time in the forums anymore and also I know that I dissapeared without much words... You know, work, study, real life and chronical lack of sleep make this kind of thing happen.

Later!.

Nice job on the reviews and welcome back Danimetal. :D I didn't get to read them all yet but I did read the first couple. I do have something to rant about now.

I don't quite understand the whole size comparison thing. If map01 fails (at least in part) because it's bigger than the first level in Doom and Doom 2, then why is it the other maps, which are far larger than their Doom and Doom 2 counterparts, don't get the same treatment? It's an entry map but why does it have to be small? I just don't get it and probably never will. Actually I didn't think the map was THAT big. O_o The first map in Vilecore 2 is even bigger..... *smirk* This isn't the first time I've gotten the same feedback on my entry levels but it doesn't make me want to change the fact. :p

I like small maps, I just don't make them often. :p

By the way, I'm not 'pissed' or anything. I don't want to give that kind of impression because actually I liked the review. I just don't agree on the one bit, but maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture.

From now on I will give Danimetal huge entry maps to play in while he gives me fake 3d floors syndrome. ;)

Such critical commentary is good. Especially when it's about Dani's reviews.
Carry on!

LOL Fatal.

I want to know what decorations Danimetal got hung up on in map25: Bitter Harvest. If it's something I placed, then I would like to avoid repeating the error..... O_o

Think I'll replay the map again to see what that's all about...

Oooh and I agree with the review about the battle in the dark at the start.... it's a royal pain... :p

Hey there, it's me after meal again XD!.

First of, die Fatal (I've been wanting to say that a long time :P). Then the rest, you see Doom_Dude (hi dude!!!, long time no see :D) I just didn't expected the first map to be that big. To be honest, I certainly liked it but I've grown used to the Doom and Doom II style in wich you can beat the first map in about 20 seconds... Starting to play NDCP with that idea in mind makes you think "Hey, this map is good but, when is it going to end??".

Apart from that, you're right on "Entry maps don't have to be small" and I agree with that, it's just the idea that I had when I began playing. The size was both good (lenghty play, fun) and bad but I now that I think of it (it has been a long while since I wrote that!) there's something I didn't realise about it and can answer the treatment of the other maps: a first map that is large prepares the way for upcoming large maps.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked the thing :). As for map25, I wish I remember what map was that!!. It has also been a while since I installed Ubuntu on my system and I didn't install any Doom for it... It has also been a while since I don't boot on Windows and certainly I don't want to XD!... I remember the battle and then a teleporter but don't remember the rest, sorry :(.

So, well, keep on reading them, I'm sure you will enjoy the work!. I'll try to pop up more often to see how things are coming and to recieve my Ndcp2 punishment :P.

It's good to see you posting. Hopefully you'll not completely disappear again...

Anyhow I can see your point of view with the size thing... I just don't share it. ;)

As for Map25 I don't remember much of it. All I remember is speed mapping the rest of the level so it could get into the project. It could've used a lot more playtesting and time spent working on it.

I'll be reading through the whole review and I'm thinking of noting any possible fixes and seeing if we can fix things for a re-release.

I read the review of the Conglomeration map and was pleased with what you had to say about it. I was very happy with the way the map came out and those who helped me work on it did a nice job. It was a fun level to design and it would be interesting to work with those guys again to make another compilation level.

Props to Dani!

I've been in London for the past 5 days, so no reviewing gotten done. However, I will get on Ghoul's forest or whatever it was called in a jiffy. I need more fellow reviewers!

Welcome back dude!. I may throw in the review for Knee Deep in ZDoom since I played it and I think I should... A review for the NDCP2 when it gets released might be possible, as I think it will be a joy to play.

By the way Fatal your list is a little wrong:

maps 25 - 28

Put in 5 "get out of ban free" cards and we have a deal!

Danimetal
July 18th, 2007, 10:26 AM
I use my mighty "Ban" + "Unlimited" + "No save roll" + "Undeflectable" cards on Fatal and take his "Ban Free" cards.

I think he means that the review number 25 repeats... I think. Anyway, we gotta talk about the reviews. Drop me a mail one of these days ok?.

Doom_Dude
July 18th, 2007, 11:56 AM
Well he already changed it, then said 'what are you talking about'. :p

LOL@Ban free cards.

Mortis was My first complete level 30 map for Doom 2, so I do have to admit that I did pretty much follow the pattern from the original Icon of Sin, and added a couple twists to it to put a bit more challenge into it. However, I didn't see the HOM that you were referring to, and I played it in both Legacy and Doomsday.

The impassable lines on the teleport landing spot were there for realism...one really cannot walk on the sky *wacky* . A for the hard to find switches in the room with the blue key, I based them on a map from the Doom Master levels, as I liked the way they looked. It WAS a tad dark, but they showed up fine (in Doomsday they glow), but I probably should have added something to show the player where to look.

Addednum to My previous post: It seems you missed a secret that balances out the darkened rooms, but I'm not gonna tell you where it is...*wacko*

(pops in)

I'm in the process of reading the reviews...mixed ones are a good thing, it can show where there is room for improvement.

Good to see you again BlackFyre. :D

Danimetal
July 19th, 2007, 07:00 AM
Didn't he make the beginning of one of the levels that Doom_Dude had to finish later and I had to play and review ;)?.

Doom_Dude
July 19th, 2007, 08:46 AM
Yes he is to blame for that. ;)

Ninja_of_DooM
July 19th, 2007, 10:20 AM
And If I'm correct, he also made map 30 too. But yes, it's good to see you again BlackFyre. Now who's got the deck of cards?

I ought to get back into mapping at some point. And I maybe should go for less excessive detail. Making super-detailed stuff is ok but it takes an age to sort out the deluge of bugs that pop up. I'll leave the Über detail work for my painting. :p

Oh and map 14 sucks!!*laugh* Nah, not really. I remember my rushed prototype map for NDCP, I think I had called it "Killing Floors" or something like that. After a crappy outdoor area, cramped corridor and crappy looking front desk I think I ended up spawning "Courtyard of DooM" which was just a little less unbearable. :p And even when Jailbreak was done, I ended up rebuilding most of it with the new textures.

Good Job with the reviews, I'm not too surprised with the reviews I got considering when I made the maps.

Longer than it takes to paint a regiment of your figures. ;)

Ninja_of_DooM
July 19th, 2007, 11:41 AM
Well yeah. I only took about 3 weeks to do that squad of Guardians in total. But you should see some of the stuff that people do for the Golden Demon contest. People will spend weeks painting models right down to the minute details.

But if you do well enough there and get top prize in that contest you get a sword as your prize. :p

Sounds cool Ninja. :D

By the way I had to moderate BlackFyre's posts that were placed within the sections for the actual NDCP map reviews (you can't post in those sections and if you do your post won't be viewable by non-moderators). I was wondering why they were showing up for validation in the mod control panel area. So I moved them to this thread and merged them so everybody can see what he had to say ---> linkage: http://forums.newdoom.com/showpost.php?p=512271&postcount=17

Didn't he make the beginning of one of the levels that Doom_Dude had to finish later and I had to play and review ;)?.

That's a bit of a bad story, but enough time has passed that I can now talk about it publicly. To make a long story short, My (now ex) wife went completely off her rocker, and torched My computer, along with many of My patient records and personal belongings. She is now in jail AND divorced, and will be remaining incarcerated for quite some time.

Wow, that's really heavy stuff what happened there!. Anyway, real life issues deserve all our attention and respect so there's really nothing bad in the way the map turned out.

As for map30, I am sure as hell that I saw the HOM (I think that I saw it in front of the face) but I don't think that matters now, does it?. It took a very long time for me to play and write those reviews and I hardly can remember any of the maps right now... The thing I most remember about map30 was that once you knew what to do it would be easy enough to finish it fast but in the meantime you would wander around, thinking about it. What I don't really remember is darkness and secrets there :S, will I download the NDCP to see it again for myself?.

Anyway, glad to see some discussion spawned here people, makes the effort a bit more worthy.

I found the HOM you described when I played the map again. It's the remains of a sector trick I was attempting, and didn't work out (I was attempting to create an invisible ledge leading to one of the secret areas).

Who says I am expected to play and review it ;)?.
Also, well, sure, this year. Sure.

I found the HOM you described when I played the map again. It's the remains of a sector trick I was attempting, and didn't work out (I was attempting to create an invisible ledge leading to one of the secret areas).
So it was there :). You can always remove it and ask for Doom_Dude to reupload the whole thing. I'm not sure if he will be happy with it though :S.
Exactly how long has it been since the project was started anyways?
Wich project?. The reviews?. The NDCP?. The NDCP2?. Nice girl in your avatar also. I don't think she's "She-Wolf" so, new girlfriend anyone ;)?.

I was referring to the NDCP. Sorry, I should have been more specific.

As to your other question. Well you guessed right. You win! :p If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have gotten my self esteem back and or be so eager to study for a better job once I get back into work.

Mine's the sword prize!. Congratulations pal, girls are wonderful! (and boys too, just reversed... or something :P). May you have many happy days and, of course, a good job :).

As for the NDCP2... Not sure, I think it has been running for a year and a bit.

Edit: Now that I think of it, the NDCP2 was announced when the original NDCP was released so it's just about doing the math with the Idgames archive or the appropriate forum thread. Please, tell me we haven't been already three years into this XD!.

Thank you Dani. I hope it'll be a long one too. But it's painful right now. To cut the story short (seeing as this is a map review thread and I don't want to hijack it) we're now seperated by a big old pond and using MSN as means to keep things going, but things are going strong. We're both nuts about each other and I won't give this up over a few hundred miles of water. At least I have a webcam so she can see me. Cracks me up whenever she calls me her big choco-cookie! :D

Danimetal
July 20th, 2007, 01:04 PM
Hey, don't worry, many people have had this situation before and have carried them out great :). Brings back memories, back then I didn't even have a webcam or knew what Internet was (not that internet was in my country back then XD) and spent all my money in telephone calls...

Webcams (the Internet, so to speak) have made these things easier as now all that is left is the touch and the smell of the person to feel the closeness... Damn, with a computer like mine's you can even feal the person's warmth (my comp gets really heathen up)!!.

Keep going strong and patient, hope you get to reunite soon :).

Now back to the reviews thread... Come on, more people, tell your friends to read this and come here to praise, whine or talk!!!.

I figured that was your girlfriend when I saw the new avatar. ;) She looks nice.

Yes I did post about this when they released the reviews a few weeks ago.

If BlackFyre wants to fix the Hom, then I don't mind doing a rerelease. Before I do that, I would have to see what else should be fixed. Might take a bit of effort on my part. :p

Danimetal
July 24th, 2007, 03:25 AM
Reviews on the website were much better looking but also required a lot of work to put them in since all work was done by hand (no clever php design was done to allow "automatic" setup of the reviews)... Since we have a very little team (do we have a team?) it was decided to put the reviews directly on the forums to save time and work or, in other words, to be able to publish faster.

In the future I'd like to do learn some php to allow for a better way of having those but the point of the reviews when there are little people reviewing is obscure :S.
