Aboo4 is a mapset by Bob Reganess. Although the level was made in 95 it still has some very interesting layouts. There won't be very much detail laying about and there is no monster balance, but what this wad doesn't do gets made up for what it does. This set features some nice tricks by editing the maps reject source. Sometimes even old wads can teach us something new as these features and yet to have been seen in most wads that come out now a days. This wad deserves a 5 out of 10.

Map Overviews -

Map 01 - I found this level really fun to play and something in the design suggest a long forgotten imaginative layout that may have not been seen since the 94 wads. Although not every key is used in the level, you will find your way around the level with very little difficulty, yet I find it still worth the play.

Map 02 - This map feature more of that great design, but in a big way and I emphasize "big" as this is a very huge map. The map does seem to take place in the sky but does feature a very interesting location, a dance hall. Now the cool thing about this is that this level features some cool tricks making passive revenants and some nice new wall textures that make you really feel more in a dance club than doom. The club also has a maze to it which works in the gameplay advantage. The only real negative note I have to add to this level is that you can walk on the sky which really takes some realism out of that, other than that, bravo.

Map 03 - This level starts out very symmetrical and seems to head more into the maze zone yet it still has its elements, some nice tricks to get through rooms. There was one room that was surrounded in darkness that seemed kinda point less but the level still was ok, don't expect the same quality of the two previous levels. Seemed to have a little less originality than the last two levels.

Map 04 - Here is the climax to the series of aboo, and a off rocker series it has been. This level starts in what looks like a house that has been remade into doom, but don't think its gonna be all peaches and cream as you travel through tons of environments to complete this map. The features are also not as greatly used but its made up for with a great usage of original textures, (really made the beginning feel like home) it also features some nice archways and a very cool archvile trick.

Overall - 5
These set of maps were fun to play through, they feature some nice layouts and give you a good break from the square like later level found in most of todays wads. Although the levels do feature some also polish, the monsters are unbalanced in every stage and don't expect a clear theme either, nevertheless, I find this wad makes for a very good play through, if only once to enjoy some of its nice textures and features.
