I have to say that after playing this map I think it would have been better as part of a single player map than a DM map. But thats getting off topic since this is a review of the single player version.
Greyscale versions of almost every Doom2 tech texture are used to create an atmosphere thats surprisingly similar to Doom3. The level of detail is also very high and good looking and a very suitable music track used.
However the level is very static. I think some active machinery and/or flickering lights could have made the world of difference.
Sadly the game play is nothing special and stands at odds with the music. Aside from a couple of well placed ambushes early on, game play consists of opening a door, shooting steadily larger blocks of monsters on the other side and then moving to the door behind them.
I found there was just enough ammo dotted around the map to complete it. Health was very rare, but the predictable monster positioning meant little was needed.
Theres also a lot of backtracking, since, I assume to make the level feel longer, the key doors are all at the opposite end of the level to the keys that open them. Though new foes are spawned in between (all facing the same way, but in a level like this, it doesnt really make much of a difference).
The level also ends very abruptly with out any form of climax.
So to summarize. A small map thats worth a look for its visuals, but not one youll remember for its game play.
