REVIEW
The author had a very unique vision for this map
To create a surreal (I think thats the correct word :p) map representing the a dream, that the player must attempt to escape from.
To achieve this the author has used near all new textures and sounds which create a very unique atmosphere. The music chosen is also very fitting (from Map30 of Doom2).
Like the new textures, the game play is just as unique. The key hunt has been greatly marginalized (though it is still there) and instead progression consist of finding switches and triggers to open dozens of marked doors. Much like unlocking different parts of your conscience if you will.
Because of the style of the map, there is little combat. But the few foes in the map can still provide a small challenge because of good monster positioning along with limited weaponry and health. Though the second half of the map falters a bit in these areas. But it goes without saying dont play this expecting to give your trigger finger a work out.
Similarly a couple of times, where to go isnt made clear. Mainly because the afore mentioned dozens of doors look the same and there isnt any indication as to which one youve unlocked. However one could argue this adds to the game play style of the map.
One has to wonder how the map would look with animated textures and flicking/glowing lights since the map has near none of either. Though such feature could make the surreal atmosphere spooky instead, which may actually harm the maps visuals.
Though the maps biggest flaw as with all old wads comes from its age. Though it is a good map, there are modern maps that follow have a similar-ish style to The Anas Dream but arent handicapped by the limits of Vanilla Doom.
The Deh file included just has the usual text changes and also changes the cheat codes.
I recommend this map to those who are looking for a change from the standard Doom game play, though age has dulled it.
