First off, you should know these maps(Stauf.wad/Stauf2.wad/StaufH.wad) are all recreations of Stauf's mansion from the Trilobyte manufactured games......but do so mainly in level/room layout alone. The level might do in a pinch for a few nostalgic DM sessions, due to several teleports here and there & such, but it will eventually bore you to tears in Single Player.

In some respects, it only gets so "high" a score because I have memories of playing the Stauf games back in the early 90's. Otherwise, I and you as well could probably do without it.

Graphics/Lighting: Score: 4/10 - Below average
The nostalgic feel of Stauf's mansion can be seen/felt, but the graphics used are all originals....and mostly the same ones over and over again, with hardly any real variation. Most of the rooms are also empty of furniture/props, with no attempt made by the author to recreate that part of the Stauf Monsion atmosphere. Some rooms upstairs have see through wall sections, which blur if you look at them from certain angles, or think you can walk into an area that you can't yet.

Lighting is average, I guess. There is light where you need it, and a bit of dark in a few areas for good measure.

Weapon/Health Placement: Score: 5/10 - Average
Yes, there are weapons and ammo, but most of it won't be needed.......due in part to the fact that this level isn't ideally setup for single player, but more towards DM. You will either walk around with hardly no ammo/etc at all, or find a suply cache in one of the rooms......and have too much for your needs. In DM this would get a 6, and single player a 4, so I averaged it out in those respects. You WILL need ammo for the boss at the end though, especially rockets, so hang onto them if you want to finish without cheating.

Monster placement: Score: 4/10 - Below average
Where do I begin? First off, the number of enemies(even on every difficulty but Nightmare) is poor, and the placement is scarce......which is also imbalanced in some respects by the hardass end boss, being a pain to kill in such a small space(You'll see, if you play anyways.)

Praises - Nostalgic classic game recreation of Stauf's mansion. Easy play for beginners. So so DM candidate.

Cons - Not enough monsters in single player. Bland texture usage & empty spaces in most areas. Graphical glitches in some areas.

Stauf welcomes you.....to semi-boredom.
