First off, you may want to know that this map is moderately linear, and is somewhat of a shooting gallery type level.....with a few exceptions, such as one or two locked areas. Now this is ok if you're into all that.....but if you're in it for the intellectual/problem solving aspects of some doom levels, you may want to find a different choice to play. This is a good starter level, though, for beginners to doom in general......or classic FPS games.
Graphics/Lighting: Score: 6.5/10 - Slightly above average
The graphics at the beginning will either make you think you need a new monitor, or cause you to reminisce of Romero's early film career(See shot 1). Textures are almost all originals, with a few used quite nicely in the later areas of the level....especially in the "core" room(You'll see).
But don't worry too much, as some areas look quite nice, considering what the author had to work with and all.....sort of like a retro 60's science lab in a spy flick, eaten up by hell in some places.
Lighting is ok, although not the best......as some of the beginning hallways show an imbalance in how they are lit.
Weapon/Health Placement: Score: 6/10 - Average
Weapons/ammo & health are there, but almost as scarce as the number of enemies you'll face. And even though the enemy count is a bit lower than norm, you may want to watch your health levels......as you will need it for the last few rooms.
Monster placement: Score: 6/10 - Average
Monsters are here, but not in the amounts of fraggage you would expect for this type of level. Vets will most likely find themselves setting the difficulty higher than normal to keep themselves occupied, while beginners will have to watch health closely throughout.
Their placement is alright in most cases , and a few monsters will pop up and surprise you on occasion, but you may get a little bored while playing through. Also, there is a BOSS monster which you cannot beat, unless you cheat anyways.....who isn't actually meant to be beaten. So when you meet it, run and save your ammo for later.
Praises - A nice retro 60's sci-fi feel to some areas. Good level for beginners, or shooting gallery fans. Nice texture usage in most areas.
Cons - Scarce ammo/health. Bleak look/feel at the start of the map. Unbeatable BOSS monster(lack of ammo) midway through the map.
