The map starts in a way many maps do. The player is given a shotgun and armor and therefore is ready to get a move on. However, right after the player walks through the teleport that leads to the outside world, he wishes he had something bigger. He encounters a big battle consisting of a lava pool (there are radiation suits, however) and tons of monsters, consisting of numerous chaingunners and shotgunners. That's the first problem of the map. The beginning is many times tougher than the latter parts of the map. After three tries I survived the first battle with 15 health and after that I never had any serious problems even with the bigger fights I met later. There's way too much ammunition on the map compared to the monster count. I don't think that it's possible to run out of shotgun shells or bullets. Any bigger stuff is given more sparingly, though, and come really handy at couple of occasions. Besides the start battle and the excessive ammunition to the basic weapons, this map has a good difficulty level. It certainly isn't too easy, but most battles are beatable at least on the second go. Some traps were quite well done, and made me jump a bit.
The map itself is rather basic. The player must explore the whole map and press couple of switches to open the path to a big final battle. The map is rather linear, but at certain point there's an intersection. Needless to say, once the player has cleared one branch, he must come back and clear the others too in order to advance in the level. The map didn't feature any special tricks (besides the traps, but they're not THAT special) which would've caught my attention. The map worked, but it was too basic to be really good. At least there weren't many truly annoying parts. I managed to only spot one.
Visually this map lacks the most. Rooms are very blocky, and it seems as they were drawn "on the fly" meaning that they weren't planned before built. Only couple of areas gave the impression that they were INTENDED to look like they do one being an unholy church of some kind, and the other being an outside area with some monsters on cliffs and others on the ground level. The latter one was the only place where the blocky sectors really seemed fitting. Almost all of the textures are unaligned, and especially the marble faces look a bit daft. The theme was clearly supposed to be hellish, but it switched so randomly that it didn't really come to my mind that I was in some sort of devil's playground. Lighting was mostly unexistant, and only couple of times it was used, and even then just to make nearly pitch black rooms with monsters somewhere.
Overall this map certainly wasn't bad. It was totally playable, didn't have any (at least noticeable) bugs, and was most of the time fun to play, with lots of different battle areas. While the lack of any kind of detail may hurt many people's eyes, those who just want to relax with a simple map of good basic doom will find this map worth playing. Also if you're looking for clever linedef actions or stuff like that, you should turn your head away.
