This old wad gave a rather confusing start. Right away you're given a shotgun and three different paths to follow. All of these paths lead immediately to tough enemies or just otherwise large battles. Yes, I found this wad to be pretty hard, but luckily there are different difficulty levels, so the wad remains quite enjoyable for everyone. The map has a good balance of ammunition and health. The first of the two maps has a nice feel after you get past the confusion in the start. The map splits into two parts, first part is an outside area with couple of buildings, the other one being steamy and dark lava cave, which looks pretty nice, I think. While this map can be finished easily under 20 seconds once you know what to do, you'll surely miss a good map that way. The first map doesn't have outstanding visuals, but with just a few sectors the author has managed to make the lava cave look really good. I found several parts of the map to be rather good looking.
I really believe that the second map is really the one the author wanted us to play. While the first map wasn't bad, the second map is a lot better. It follows the same theme with the difficulty, if you found the first map to be just perfect for you, so you will find this one too. The second map takes place on some huge demonic arena and the many complexes that stretch around it. Basically it's possible to get stuck in this map, as there are so many passages leading out of the arena, only one of them at time helps the player to get further. However, I didn't find this to be a big problem, as I didn't have to roam for long to find out where I was supposed to go next. The theme of this map was a bit better in my opinion. Once in a while a new batch of monsters teleported to the arena, and finally the player meets the last challenge. Certainly it's a rather nice ending to the already good wad. It's clear that while this map is bigger than the first one, the visuals weren't so important to the author. Couple places had nice lighting effects, and some places had a nice feel to them, but otherwise the map was rather blank. However, the visuals didn't have any real problems.
This wad is definitely worth playing. It should be possible for rookies, and a nice challenge to more advanced players. The levels work well and hold to their themes rather well. While the visuals aren't superb most of the times, they aren't terrible. This is a nice basic wad, suitable for the whole family!
