Well, the title really explains it all. But just in case, let me repeat myself; Why are we here? I mean that as in "on Earth", not in a forum. So, why are we here? There have been many theories. Some are "To answer that very question", others "Because God made it so". So I ask you now, my people who I have been talking to for almost a year, what is your opinion?

In case you're asking, this is my opinion (I don't want to start a "Where's your proof" war): We are here because the Universe is. What I mean is, over billions of year (13-14), matter has "evolved". For example, first there was the Big Bang. We have no idea about it. Then, 10-18 seconds later, all that wierd crap made a quark and gluon stew. Those formed particles less than a second later... Blah, blah, blah. I can continue on with that, but it would take too long.
So anyway, then Earth was made. And as the years went by, atoms and such evolved further, and calcium and other "biological" matter happened to come together, and make something resembleing life. This too, evolved, and made something even more resembling life. A complex code of atoms formed a molecule, one that distinguishes every living thing (DNA). Anyhoo, life evolved so that it could survive better. That's how it made us. So if you look at it from my point of view, our arrival was unavoidable. It may have been stalled, but something like us would appear anyway, no matter what.
As for terrestial life's love of water, well I have an explenation for that, too. There was so much of it, that it became part of what life here is, so we must have water. I'm not so sure about life that has developed in other parts of the universe, but we need water.
So once again, a review; We are here because molecular structures "evolved" into something that could actually use waves of different types to think, or at least command its own structure. Our coming is inevidable, and even if we get extinct, something new will come, eventually.

Now, enough of my opinion, write yours. For the sake of sanity, don't ask "where's your proof?". I don't want this to turn into a flame war against religion (that's why we have The Death Thread). Oh yeah, and if this belongs in polotics, then can some mod kindly move it there. Thanks. Now write your opinions/theories/words/whatever.

We're here to have a jolly good time!

I can't really think of any good reason to live in misery and achieve practically nothing, and thus I respect the poor of the world very much for their struggle, as I surely would consider ending it all in their position.

I'm here because my pappy forgot to wear a rubber.

Oooh!
It's actually because Hydrogen is the easiest molecule available, it having just one neutron and one proton and one electron. Most of the time *grin*
I still don't get why it forms water so well, but whatever, I explained why we want to Nuke Fissise (Ev0l invented words) Hydrogen.
Water is actually the best catalyst for just about anything, or so I've learnt.
Now, Me and Chemistry are like two equally charged magnets, but I'd doubt it if there'd actually be an acid-based lifeform or something (Sulphur even) based on that.

Apart from that, both previous comments I agree with.

We are here because the planet decided to shit us out of the primordial muck and has since regretted doing it.

Actually I don't think anybody can say why we are here. It's most likely that a bunch of random events caused all this stuff to come into play.

Who cares why we're here? We should make the best with what we have and possibly accomplish something.

I agree, although I still think about it, sometimes.
Pieter Enis, well yeah, the thing about the water is true, I suppose. But then again, I've said so before (a few days ago), and I'll say it now. I'm to damn lazy to do most of the research I should, so my thoughts come from my sense, which isn't to great (did that even make sense?).

I suspect we weren't so random. I figure life like us is a perfectly normal conclusion when you have the right conditions.

And since when did hydrogen need a neutron? It can have one but I don't think most hydrogen floating around happens to be deuterium. :p
