After a long break from working on it, I've started making some progress on the map and messing about with some DeHackEd for the newest enemy addition.

It features 6 new and modified monsters, new music, plenty of new textures and loads of 3D floors and 3D moving platforms.

I´d swear I already posted here... Anyway, it was quite promising last time I played the demo, maybe a bit repetive in the theme, but also quite original. Looking forward to it.

Nice!, that second bridge looks like it would be scary to run across :D
If I could suggest anything, I'd say mix some texture colors in there, maybe some greens and blues.
Pretty clean looking though man, I like it.;)

All I can say is, when you meet the newest monster, you'll see plenty of yellow and not much else, heh.

Well I dent want to be picky or anything, but anyways yeah I guess I'll have to play it. ;)

*bump*

K, I'll admit work didn't last very long during the previous attempt, but I've re-resumed again now, heh. Hopefully I'll stay with it a little longer this time. The project began in September 2005, over two years ago now, so I'd really like to finish it at some point. I'm even bribing DooMGoaT with free alcohol in an attempt to get some of the sprites finished.

New texture I've been using for some of the indoor areas, plus more of those shiny 3D display screens.

Note the door at the bottom is 3D, not infinitely tall like regular doors in Doom, so you can walk above it.

Here's the current editor shot (http://www.teamhellspawn.com/new.gif), showing just how completely demented I've become with all the 3D floors involved.

Looks cool, and the atmosphere is good.

Reminds me a little of the first Jedi Knight, actually.

Hell yeah DooMAD, looks nice.
Heh sounds like you had some fun making that 3D door. ;)

Sweet tities, I want to play it!

I haven't added the scripting that will make the door actually do something yet, heh. All the sectors are in place though, so it works in theory. ;)

Ah ok, I'v never made one personally but I know it's very possible. Palladin made one, one time that was in the middle of a 3dfloor on top of it and worked pretty good. ;)
I remember tell him before he made it, that there was no way it could be done, just so he would prove me wrong. :D

I made one of those a while back...

Took me forever to get it working right, but it was still fun to make. :D

To speed things up a bit (but only a tiny bit, it's still taking ages), I'm recycling an exceedingly small old wad I made and turning it one of the new areas in this map. I've changed the theme slightly so that it fits with the rest of the level:

Apologies to any dial-up people for the number of images in the thread, but linking directly to the pics gives that horrible white background and far too much glare to see anything in a dark screenshot. Something I've always found far more annoying than a slow loading page.

These level shots look really dark. I think if you somehow created some isolated light sources, it would add to the contrast and make it look really rad.

You could save the images as JPEGs, instead of GIFs. That would be some help for us people stuck with dial-up.

Looking good yo.

A 3d door is simple to get working, you can even use a Boom elevator move linetype to do it without any scripting at all. Once you got the thing actually built most of the hard work is done.

Some more custom corona lighting could spif up those other areas.
/me thinks, like in shots 2 and 3. ;)

It probably will be a boom elevator linetype used. The only problem is that it's a red key door and I can't see any linetypes for lifts that require keys, so that's why it needs scriptage. iori_ has already given me a shiny script that checks if the player has the right key before activating it, so I just need to add it to the WAD along with a few more lines to spawn monsters on 3D floors in various areas.

Yep, when the bulk of the layout is done I'll go back and do a bit of detailing, including shiny lights.

Sector based lights would also be pretty rad.

My abuse of 3D floors knows no bounds. I've just about finished making the most complicated building I'm ever likely to dare attempt. It has three floors, with a central lift connecting them all. It's proving quite difficult to add detail, since every sector needs at least 3 control sectors to stop holes appearing in the floor or ceiling, heh.

All the shots are taken from roughly the same angle, but on different floors:

Upper Floor:

Middle Floor:

It's crap, trust me :D

In actuality, I love the vertical theme. It allows one to cram so much into so little a space. I approve.

Wonderful, wonderful... I should have Doom installed in this new computer.

You damn well better have Doom installed on there Dani !
/looks for rocket launcher..

DooMAD, I'm wondering about gradient lime-green sector lighting heh. - I know, depending on how much slime you got in there. :P
Looks good, I love the last shot.

I spent about an hour messing about with dynamic lights trying to give those computer screens a soft green glow, but everything I tried looked ugly, so gave up. I might try experimenting with sector lighting after the layout is done. I've updated the mapshot (http://www.teamhellspawn.com/new.gif) again, with the latest progress highlighted in yellow. Still needs quite a bit of work though.

@Danimetal, /me puts hand on head and nods no...AND THEN EXPLODES AND SCREAMS NOOOOO!!!
:D
@DooMAD, understood. About the dynamic lights though, was that with the corona spawn fraggle hack? if not, you can make those things really small, optional to remove the center light leaving nothing but a glow, or in reveres. ~ if I remember correct, use #222222 for a dark grey instead of black for light intensity removal.

I'm using WadAuthor for the mapping, but also DoomBuilder for texture alignments since I'm lazy, heh.
