So what DVD's have you guys purchased lately?
OR what movies have ya'll watched lately?
AND what films do you want to see?
FURTHERMORE what movie(s) do you think they should make?
I recently bought on DVD...
James Bond 007: Goldeneye
Underworld
Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Battlestar Galactica (Season One)
I watched recently...
The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black and thought it was pretty good for that kind of sci-fi show.
Looking forward to watching:
300
Casino Royale
Wish they would do a good adaptation of Terry Brook's The Sword of Shannara

I haven't bought anything recently.
Most recently, I've watched "Idiocracy". What a brilliant movie. Some of the humor was stupid, but the overall point was potent and well-executed.
And they should make a good movie of "The Restaurant At The End of the Universe".

I'd like to see an Eldest movie.

Last movie I bought was Pirates of the Carrabean: Dead mans chest, I got Battlestar Galactica as well on the box it says that it is the complete serie with 24 episodes I thought there were more than 24.
I really enjoyed Chronicles of Riddick I found it to be better than Pitch Black, dunno about Casino Royale yet I prefer the Roger Moore James Bonds.

If you ha all the released episodes of BSG you should have at least 33. The first season had 13 and the second had 20. The third is shaping up for 20 as well and this doesn't count the miniseries they used for the pilot, which is as long as four episodes. I have season one on DVD.
Last few movies I saw were Saw III, Ghost Rider, and Departed.
Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black were good. I haven't seen any sci-fi in a while.

The season one DVD set of Battlestar Galatica I bought includes the 3+ hour miniseries on the first DVD. I see in the store they have Season 2.0 and 2.5.... not sure wtf is going on with that. Looks like they split the season in order to get more money. :/
I also bought that Ultraviolet movie Big_al mentioned. Haven't watched it yet. I buy a lot of DVD's at blockbuster that are previously viewed and are far cheaper than buying new and there's no problems with returning anything that is scratched or whatever. Haven't had to return anything yet and they don't seem to package anything that got any marks or damage on it.
How was that Ghost Rider film Aliotroph?
Also keeping an eye out for
House Of Flying Daggers
A Scanner Darkly
Beowulf and Grendel (hope it doesn't suck) heh
Also I picked up The Sentinel today for cheap.

Hmm, I need to see A Scanner Darkly.
Ghost Rider was better than I expected, especially considering it starred Nicholas Cage, who usually comes off as a creepy ass.
As for Battlestar, season two was filmed and aired with something like a five-month hiatus in the middle. The first bunch of DVDs came out before the second half of the season had been on TV yet.
All the DVDs I get are gifts. Though, if they ever release Exo Squad on DVD I'll buy it the second I see it. :D

I still have to see Saw III ive heard its the most gory one of the three, I think I will see Beowulf and Grendel as well at first I thought you ment Beowulf with Cristopher Lambert (Highlander) :p thats was an weird movie but kinda cool.

Saw III was pretty gory. If you're easily grossed out then don't watch it on a full stomach. :D

February 28th, 2007, 01:27 PM
I saw Beowulf and Grendel... it's interesting... but lacks a bit of killing. I watched Lambert's version too... and it's more of a B movie than the new one.
I'm starving to buy Blade Runner... but I think that holding me back is doing a lot good for my pockets.

Blade Runner is one of the best science fiction movies ever made the music from Vangelis is awsome, ive seen it many times and still can enjoy it.
And of course Harrison Ford is an great actor.

I recall hearing there was supposed to be a special edition of Blade Runner in the theatres in December but I never saw it. A couple of friends and I wanted to go see it. The original theatrical version is pretty different from the director's cut.

There was a Beowulf film with the Highlander? :p

Movies I've viewed recently:
The Runaway Jury (suspense thriller)--great cast and acting, great plot and great topic.
Solaris (sci-fi/drama)--Everything up to the last segment of the movie builds this sci-fi up great, but that last segment kills it for me; the movie simply refused to go into detail about its plot.
Pan's Labyrinth (drama/war/fantasy)--Absolutely brilliant in every way imaginable. It's subtitled though, if you're not into that. Also really gory.
The Number 23 (psychological thriller)--Just saw this one (obviously :p). An unsuspected role for Jim Carrey to take on, but it's hardly noticeable that he's a comedian after roughly the first 30 minutes or so. Very nice plot, very good flick.
Casino Royale (action)--Probably the best Bond film I've seen yet. I look forward to seeing the next movies the new Bond actor is to do; despite he does not look like a Bond he certainly perfects the character.
Blood Diamond (war/action)--Good story, important topic, but occasionally over-acted on DeCaprio's behalf (which isn't surprising).
The Good German (war/drama)--Long, uninteresting, doesn't really go anywhere important with the plot--just plain boring.
The Pursuit of Happyness (drama)--A very nice, light-hearted movie. Very good acting and characters.
Children of Men (sci-fi/doom prophecy :p)--Gripping, dark, brutal, gritty and scary as hell for a movie that has nothing to do with the genre of horror. Excellent movie.
Stranger than Fiction (comedy/drama)--Nice movie, had a few nice laughs and moments that were quite suspenseful.
Deja Vu (action)--Good action flick, but it's slightly over-plotted. I still liked it though.
The Fountain (drama)--Very slow-paced, like the Good German--but worse was the fact that the plot was just outright confusing. I don't know what the critics who raved about it were smoking.
Movies in gold I highly recommend you see--they are very excellent films that I doubt will disappoint. Movies in green I recommend to a lesser extent--they are very good, but not necessarily in the same league as the gold ones. The plain ones I don't feel too much one way or another about--a 3-star review, if you will. The red ones I did not like at all and will not touch again--not even with a 47-yard pole. :p
That's it for me. I've probably seen more like 30 movies in the past 2-3 months, but I can't remember, nor do I wish to describe, each and every one of them. And I'm TIRED. Bed now.

I heard the Russian original of Solaris from the 70s was better. Haven't gone there yet though.
If you wanna see a bad sci-fi movie go find a copy of Soylent Green. Talk about taking a potentially neat idea, well-known actors, and a decent budget and then throwing it all down the toilet! Ugh!

I saw Wolf Creek recently, which is based on the backpacker murders in the Northern Territory, Australia.
A Night at the Museum was pretty funny.
My uncle gave me the Doctor Who Season 1(2005) Boxset that comes in the shape of the TARDIS, a coupla weeks ago because he bought the more streamlined version (2 DVD cases thick).
I know the real reason is because hes just an awsome uncle :p
He also gave me a copy of the 3 hour extended version of Dune.

I recently saw "The Departed", thought it was a movie about two guys who lose their own personality while acting undercover, one as a gangster pretending to be a cop, the other doing the flipside of that.
I never noticed any one of the two 'losing' their personality.
I can't really tell if it really was that good. It's good if you want to see a movie with a lot of ... action in it. Be it verbal or non-verbal. That would be the most fitting way to describe it.
In the end it ends just like Shakespeare's tragedies.
It being directed by Martin Scorcese made me think it was going to be really good, but it wasn't as original as Clockwork Orange, for instance.
Worth seeing if you're out of ideas for good movies, that's what I'd advise you.
Haven't seen any other movies as of late, except on TV, but those came out a long time ago.
I'd very much like to see Blade Runner, what with all the good reviews I've been noticing it's getting.
Same goes for Doctor Who.
I finally got to see Mortal Kombat in it's whole, still think it's an 'entertaining' movie, in a Disney kind of way. (I'm comparing to something like "Angels", forgot the name but it had that in it. Just Fast Forward near the end of the movie and watch them all flap their wings to 'cheer on their team'. That kind of "Disney Entertainment")
I haven't seen any good movies lately, but I'll name a few I saw just to freak people out:
-Dark Crystal (Just plain kickass puppet action.)
-Gulliver's Adventures (The one where he tells about the Houynm's and the floating island I found to be the most interesting one)
-The Neverending Story (Only saw the part with the giant Porpoise in the swamp and the boy riding a Unicorn or something to get back on time)
-Flying High (I d'no, just pure fun and entertainment if you manage to quit thinking for the duration of the movie :p)
- The 4 Monty Python movies (Grail, Brian, Jabberwocky and Life)
- The whole series of Laurel and Hardy (-sigh- need I say more?)
- Charlie Chaplin's movies (Well we don't have them here, but they're great fun)
- The 3 series of Tommy Coopers' magical tricks (I think it was him. You know, the great guy with the fez)
By the way, my parents taped those movies when they were broadcast on TV long ago.
And like many tapes here state in the end:
Tha-tha-that's all folks!

Freelanzer, have they actually made a Final Fantasty VII film? When did this happen? This is the first I've heard of it.
Yes they actually made one, and when I say they I mean Square Enix the creators of the series of course.. The other FF movie was a cheap knock-off and has nothing to do with FF in any way.
What about that Final Fantasy Spirits Within film. I never did get to watch it.
Final Fantasy the Spirits Within has nothing to do with the Final Fantasy series what so ever. It was made like the Doom movie was made, the name drew attention. So again like the Doom movie, if you want to see a FF movie DO NOT watch The Spirits Within.. Watch Advent Children insteed. Though if you would like to just watch a good animated movie you can watch either of them.
Anyway, I can't wait to see the previews of the Kingdom Hearts movie they are making very discreet, there have recently been let out bits of information though.

Watched "Full Metal Jacket" a few days ago ive seen it for so many times and I really love that movie probably my favourite Vietnam movie no wait I think I liked "Platoon" better.Nah, it's not better, although it's good. Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078788/) may be considered better than Full Metal Jacket, depending on if you're a Kubrick fan (and I'm partial to both). Oliver Stone... not a fan.

I watched Silent Hill last weekend. Having never played the Silent Hill games, I didn't know what to expect. Overall, I found it a pretty good flick.
I also watched Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes. Unlike most direct-to-DVD releases I've seen in the past, this one actually does a good job with staying close to the original Pumpkinhead movies. Also, Doug Bradley did a good job of playing that evil doctor.
Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave. I had expected this to be corny and cheesy, as it's predecessors were, and yeah, it was just that. Kinda lame, but since I wasn't expecting much from it in the first place, I wasn't too disappointed.
Eddie Murphy: Delirious. I really wish he'd go back to stand-up. After seeing this and Raw, I find him less funny now as an actor. He's really good at stand-up, I think, moreso than he ever has been in the movies. He really should give stand-up another go. ):

I thought the best Vietnam film was Hamburger Hill. It shows both sides, whereas most just focus on how America was so wrong to be there etc.
Oh and Falci, I bought Sniper recently, too. "They're all suicide missions!!!". I like the scenery in that film.. the jungle looks brilliant.
Silent Hill was cool, too. Great atmosphere.

The other day I rented both the "Black Christmas" films.
The new one was terrible, pretty much without any redeeming qualities of any kind. What a waste.
The original from 1974 is FANTASTIC, and not just because it's even older than I am. It's based on a great idea, well for the time, remember this is basically the first "Slasher" film ever created. It's got a good cast of believable characters unlike the new one. It's got some fantastic POV shots for the killer as he moves around, really really good stuff. And while I can be a tough person to chill, the phone calls from Billy sent a shiver or two up my spine. If you're looking for a good scary movie this is one I highly recommend. Definitely a movie from a time when they still knew how to make good movies.

It's in Russian, but I'm not sure you'd like it, as it may get boring easily. I think I'm just exceedingly patient when it comes to movies, so I don't mind the slow-pacedness at all. But try it if you wish. Reading the novel beforehand may help you understand things a lot better, though, as even after reading the novel, many things didn't open to me in the movie. The novel and the movie tell different stories, so there's not much overlapping at all, not counting the overall theme. They don't spoil each other very much at all.

Lets see, lately I've seen... Lots of movies. The ones in colors were especially good.
Trois Couleurs: Bleu (4/29/07) - Wonderful! It's making me look foreward to seeing Trois Couleurs: Rouge and Trzy Kolory: Biały.
Escape from NY (4/28/07) - An okay movie for its time (although I've seen better), but the 80s music... Horrible!
The Excorsist (4/27/07) - Beautiful! Although not the scariest movie ever made, its a brilliant horror.
Das Boot (3/23/07) - I thought it was good. I was surprised to find that I was liking the Nazi crew of U-96. Mostly because the movies about them, and you see what they had to live through.
Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny (3/14/07) - Well, this movie's brilliant. It has some of the stupid yet hilarious humor that comes in most Jack Black movies, plus the plot was just funny.
Babel (3/01/07) - This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen (don't ask why). I just found it addictive to watch.
Flags of our Fathers (2/08/07) - A good movie. Although not the best one I've seen, if you know what I mean (in case you don't, its not what I though it would be).
Little Miss Sunshine (1/24/07) - Once again, brilliant! Like Babel, it's just amazing.
I've also watched on HBO recently, The Band of Brothers. I think this is an excellent WWII movie (along with Finding Private Ryan).
Now... Movies that I want to see... Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End (I enjoy the Pirates movies, they're some of the best action movies ever). Also Blades of Glory and Hot Fuzz (I enjoy pointless, humorous, and violent movies).

Spiderman 3 last Thursday. It was pretty good. Only disappointing part was that it didn't follow the comics and cartoon's story, but that's not such a bad thing since I already would have known what happened.
Watched The Pink Panther (the new one, with Steve Martin) last Saturday. Meh.
Batman Begins on sunday--Ace movie. I need to see it on a bigger screen with better sound now.

Well, last moday I've fullfilled one of my movie-dreams, and successfully completed watching Blood Diamond. I give it 10 out of 5. It is one of the best movies I've ever seen! I wish I've gone to the theatre when it was still there, because it must have looked amazing! On my television screen it looked awesome, so imagine the big screen...
As for Eragon, I've seen it, and I must say, if somebody has not read the book, and did not know anybody who has read the book, this movie would almost make sure they didn't read it. The movie was horrible. It was, like Nomad said, nothing special. Not only that, but it was missing so much content! I give it a... I don't know. Something bad in any case.
Let's see... what other movies have I watched that have been mentioned here (because I really don't watch that much)? Well, I've seen V for Vendetta, and I found it good. Strangely, one of my friends says he did not understand it. Also seen Casino Royale. That was near-brilliant. Good action, some intellect, near-brilliant.
Last weekend I've watched Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan for the second time. I know it's not special, yet I find it so. It's a not-so-bad movie if you ask me.
But lately, the best movie I've seen has got to be Blood Diamond. Brilliant, awesome, whatever. It's a masterpiece.

Seen Curse of the Golden Flower lately. It's a not-so-bad movie. In the end you get a "Lord of the Rings eat your heart out" feeling but you have to sit through an hour of quite dull and predictable events.
I mean, it's interesting when you're seeing the movie, but it loses the magic afterwards.
There are sudden duels that spice things up though.
About Spiderman 3: There was too much crying. And the reactions of the protagonists were ... off. I mean: Would you kiss another girl when your girlfriend is watching? I wouldn't.
And then they throw some thick, slimy emotions in that ruin the pace of the action.
But I'm glad Venom made his guest appearance. I love that KISS-esque guy.
Yet it's true, the comic is not being followed.

They allready did combine the alien and the predator in "Predator 2" well sort of at the end of the movie the fight inside the predator ship there was an display case with an bunch of skulls in it and one of them looks alot like an alien skull but I could be wrong.
I think I agree with you there Doom_Dude, I guess I was right I found this on the internet.
At the end of the movie, a Xenomorph skull can be seen in the Predator's trophy collection. In retrospect this could have appeared to be a hint for the upcoming spinoff, Alien vs. Predator, but the movie had been made fourteen years prior to AvP. Many people including the writers of Predator 2 believed that Stan Winston indeed put the Alien head in the Predators' skull collection to intentionally connect the two franchises, both owned by 20th Century Fox. However, the first appearance of the mixed franchises, the first comic of Aliens vs. Predator, was released by Dark Horse Comics in November 1989, a year before Predator 2 was released.

I belive that the Matrix 2 and 3 movies would have been better if the had stuck with what the first movie stabilished.
Neo being a god into the Matrix and going to tell everyone the truth. Things like Agent Smith coming back as an Anti Neo, both powers limiting each other's forcing them to fight for supremacy. Neo winning on the fact he's a human therefore he has the imagination Agent Smith can't have. "It doesn't matter if you're a limited machine with illimited powers. I'll always be an illimited machine with illimited powers."
Also... instead of releasing the humans, the end would reveal that Neo's objective is to give humans the freedom of choice between real and thorn life or the comodity of the Matrix. And disably the cybernetic guards.
The third could be about Humans trying to find the robot city and seen what has happened to it. Neo has a wild guess. At the end, after a great walk through a phantom city inhabited by a colosus guard (and a fight with it!) they find out: The robots have sealed themselves into their own Matrix, which exists in a "parallel reality" to the humans one. With a planet so ripped and thorn, there was nothing left to live for there. Their matrix is also different in a sense that it's composed of huge central tower that rises above the clouds for sunlight energy and is also fed by some dozens of fusion reactors. The existence of the parallel matrix is Neo's wild guess.

Power was what the humans were held in the Matrix for in the first place *drunk*
Just a question, what would the second part be about?
But I agree, and remember having read it somewhere: Somewhere between movie 1 and 2 Neo 'forgets' all the neat powers he has.
Or movie 2 & 3, whatever.
I just think they should've made Neo a real God in the Matrix, not just a guy who can fly and do the stuff the other dislodged ones could do.

I know... but, that's what the humans know. What the machines actualy think of it?
Anyway, I like to think as: Keep the humans out of the way, so that they won't keep waging war, interfeering. But this ain't Skynet, so the machines don't actualy have to terminate mankind.
So... the humans are batteries... to power their own virtual lives.
And if you think of it, by the end of the third movie, the humans will be released. If they're the machines entire power source... how will they keep functioning if they release the humans?
It's like saying: "Here, you won! Keep the world and we will shutdown."
But I'm not saying that my vision is perfect... it just pleases me more. :D

I think that only those, who did not accept Matrix (something like 1% of the population) were allowed to leave.
However, there are many things that simply do not match. How is it possible that any humans could possibly escape the farm? Shouldn't there be those drones take care of anything that they see unfit? How could these humans, who have spent their entire lives doing nothing suddenly start some movement?
How come that the machines have six times allowed the humans to start up their little colony? I never got this thing in the second movie. It made no sense to me.

How could these humans, who have spent their entire lives doing nothing suddenly start some movement?
Easily explained. When you die in the matrix, you die in real life. Remember when Neo fell off the building during training in the first one? When he was pulled out, he was still hurt in the real word. Common sense would say the same would work in the other way. Activity in the matrix strengthens you in the real world.

But not by a lot. Don't forget that they had to rebuild Neo's muscular structure after they took him out.

I was under the assumption that the machines weren't 'all knowing' and thus didn't know about the human colony or it's location.
But at regular intervals, they always LET some humans escape the matrix. So the architect says.

I'm thinking the robots see it as some sort of sport.
But that would be silly, because they'd need all the battery power they can get.
Maybe it was because the last One chose those people to be free?
Wouldn't make sense either since when the One would die (of old age or whatnot) there'd be no reason for the robots not to hunt down the humans.

Yes, I think the "Pirates" series has been as successful financially as the "Star Wars" movies series; fiction vs. comedy.
According to Wikipedia, the "Star Wars" series has a gross revenue of over $4.5 billion, whereas the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise has "only" grossed a bit more than $2 billion. Of course, these figures are always a rough estimate at best, so who knows?
Nomad
June 26th, 2007, 01:08 PM
Consider how long Pirates has been out, though. It has earned a little less than half in about a four or five year period with just three movies, as opposed to a near 30 year period with six major movies, and god knows how many spinoffs.
Kristian
June 26th, 2007, 01:19 PM
True, but there are many things unclear here (which neither of the Wikipedia articles answered). For example: have the "Star Wars" figures been adjusted for inflation? Are estimates from third world countries (where films, at least historically, have been known to run at local cinemas without compensation to the distributor or production company) included? If not, this would obviously further benefit the "Star Wars" series.
I agree that the POTC series has done remarkably well (beyond Walt Disney Pictures' wildest dreams, I'm sure).
BTW, from the description in the Wikipedia articles, I'm pretty sure the "Star Wars" figures only includes the 6 movies and not any spin-offs, series, PC and console games, toys, etc. As for POTC, the revenue estimate is much more hazily described (and could include such things as e.g. toys and games). If I wasn't so lazy, I guess I could get some reliable figures.

Anyway, yesterday I watched two consecutive movies (on a roll, aren't I?);
The first, The Ninth Gate, is about a book collector/seller(?) who is asked by a collector to verify the authenticity of a book that is supposed to contain rituals on how to summon the devil. Of course, after some wierd crap, the book actually works, but Satan isn't shown, instead, the guy (played by Johnny Depp (Teh Pirate!)) is shown walking into a tower with some very bright light in the background, and then the screen fades.
The second film, Lake Placid, is about a group of cops and a paleantologist (I don't care how it's spelled right now) who are investigating a creature in a lake. They are soon joined by some Hector dude, who is a mythologist, and believes that crocidiles are actually gods or something. The creature, of course, is a giant crocidile. It is later revealed it grew so big because a psychotic old lady was feeding her cows to it. In fact, she even let it have her husband! Anyhoo, they catch the croc. However, at the end, the lady is shown feeding three baby crocs :D
That's all for now.

I agree, it was a decent action film, just mindless entertainment, with some surprisingly good performances -- for example by Justin Long -- and I can recommend it to the die hard (pardon the pun) fans of the series, but the other three films in the series are clearly better, with the first one being the absolute best, IMHO.

"Transformers" was IMHO an okay film. Most of the action sequences were spectacularly filmed (as usual, nowadays) and the film (fortunately) clearly didn't take itself too seriously -- no details to avoid spoilers, but it involves e.g. a top-top-secret government agent, and someone attempting to pass off as the world's greatest signal analysist, being shamelessly overplayed.
Many of the plot elements felt a little made up "on the fly" and some just didn't make any sense. It also took too long for the plot to develop IMHO, making the film slightly overlong.
I'd still probably recommend it to any open-minded Transformers fan looking for a couple of hours of mindless action, laughs, and -- in a way -- nostalgia.

There was, but some of it ("Sam's happy time...") felt like it was there just because everybody's doing the whole "hey, lets put adult jokes in a youngster movie so more people will like it" thing right now.
What I mean is that putting jokes like that in a movie that is based on a children's toy franchise seems a little cliche. Almost every kid movie now has adult jokes in it. It just gets old.

So anyhoo...
I've seen Harry Potter 5. The movie flied by so fast... and they missed so many things that are quite emphasized in the books. I give it a 3/5.
I dunno. They did take out some major side plots, but I think it was much better with keeping true to the book than the fourth movie did. I still liked the fourth after I had seen it, but I just felt more disappointed with that one than any of the others I've yet seen, because the amount of detail they stripped from the plot was ridiculous.
Plus, while one of the subplots was completely ignored sadly, the others were, while obviously minimalized, still worked in (or at the very least implied) one way or another, if not the way it was originally written. There were even small scenes I had forgotten about entirely but recognized immediately during the film, something I did not find true about the fourth.
Besides, no matter how much I loved reading through 800+ pages of the fifth book, I'd be damned if I had the stamina to sit threw a movie that covered all those events. And of course, getting all that detail is what you read the books for anyway. :p
But on the topic at hand. Yeesh, I have seen so many movies since I last posted in here I wouldn't be able to name them all. It has to have been at least a hundred, if not more. I need to get outside more. :D
So I'll just post about the movie I just got done watching. Just watched K-Pax. It's an interesting flick about a guy who claims to be from another planet (K-Pax of course), and the psychiatrists/doctors/astronomers who try to figure out what his story really is--after all, he couldn't really be an alien, right? ;)
It's pretty good overall. The whole thing was pretty open for interpretation, which could be considered a good or a bad thing (depending on whether you prefer to get the big picture or to be left wondering), though it does seem to leave room for the viewer to assume there were plot holes if they don't consider some of those details as part of the whole mystery of it.
I liked it though, so either way I give my recommendation for it.
Also forgot to mention, it has really cool music too. Might have to look into the soundtrack for it.

Just watched the new Harry Potter movie. So much was left out that it wasn't too great :(

What I mean is that putting jokes like that in a movie that is based on a children's toy franchise seems a little cliche.
I assume the target audience for the film are people who grew up watching the cartoon and playing with the toys in the 80s and who are now (young) adults. Based on that assumption, I see no problem with those kind of jokes.

My cute recommended I go and see Good Will Hunting. Any of you guys seen it before? I'm told it's a good film.

Yes. It is a good movie. It's a Kevin Smith/View Askew film anyway, so it's bound to be good. :P

I'll have to look it up then. I probably won't find it at the cinemas now.
One movie I've always wanted to watch is The Shining. I've never gotten round to it yet. :p

Once again, Ace, you show your talent for writing abnormally long replies to simple topics such as movies.
Anyway, going back to what you've typed, I think the most altered movie was the third, Prisoner of Azkaban. There were so many unnecessary changes, it blew my mind away (yet I am still here) once I read the book. The movie itself was pretty enjoyable, but the changes were quite unexpected. But I'm not complaining.
And yes, if they show every little detail of the book in the movie, certain chapters could have lasted an hour by themselves. Although I daresay I didn't see that many major changes in the fourth as simple left-outs. But there were a lot of those in the fifth as well.
And I must say I do like the prospect of figuring it out for myself in movies, it gives you a sort of "think for yourself" view, but I also find it quite a bit annoying. I hate having things hidden from me.
Finally, I have not seen any movies as of late... That I can remember. I haven't been watching to many TV programs, either, although I have stopped viewing television a while ago, except on rare occasions when I find a program that interests me, usually having something to do with science and technology... All I've really been doing lately is visiting the forums and reading the Harry Potter novels, as I have an urgency to finish before this Friday...

Good Will Hunting is an old movie, and your only chance of seeing it is on video/DVD.
The Shining is an excellent movie that both showcases Jack Nicholson's talents and provides a creepy movie experience. [Incidentally, there was a terrific mod for Duke 3D based on the Overlook hotel in the movie.]

No problem with using those jokes, I guess it's just that jokes like that are overused in general, and while still funny, while you're laughing you're also thinking god, how many times has this been done before?

In the movie itself or movies in general (the jokes, I mean)?
The Shining is the one with redruM, isn't it? I've been wanting to see it for a while, too...

Yeah. I do that a lot. D;
Anyway, going back to what you've typed, I think the most altered movie was the third, Prisoner of Azkaban. You know, I had heard it was the worst at that, but I don't honestly remember the third book so well. May have to reread sometime (and I'd spot the differences pretty easily after seeing the third movie on TV numerous times).
Also, they left out quite a bit from the fourth, I think now about the same as the fifth (I thought more but it seems more is coming back to me that they left out from the fifth so I'd say they're close). Each had large subplots dropped (two each actually, I think), and each also had few smaller but not time-consuming details changed/removed, which I personally find pointless under any circumstance.
But I'd call them about even (then again, my memory of the fifth is a bit fuzzier than the fourth for some reason) I think.
As for the original topic (what was it, again? :p). Hm. Still haven't seen anything since K-Pax. I can certainly say I'd like to see several movies. Die Hard, Simpsons, and Bourne Ultimatum, to name a few. I think there's another I want to see but I can't remember, heh.
Does anyone else think that the Simpsons movie looks literally impossible to fit into one movie plot? Seriously, it looks like they've got absolutely every kind of plot development and genre fit in just looking at the previews, and it seems almost as if they're just a whole bunch of different episodes (which I hope turns out not to be the case because that's what I watch TV for).

Yeah, the simpsons movie does look rather intresting. Hilarious, actually. And I must agree with you, Ace, they show so many different things it's hard to think how they fit it all into one movie. I hope it's good. I cracked up so much at the Spider-pig thing at the end of the trailer.
Going back to Harry Potter, I'm still pretty sure the fifth had more things left out, but I'm not to sure, as I remember the fifth book (having finished it yesterday) and movie better than the fourth.
